Ms Patriot: Monster Mayhem
Chapter 2
Ocean City, midnight Friday night…
Thunder rolled across the sleeping city. Justice Girl looked down as she streaked across the night sky surrounded by a glowing yellow bubble of lightning. The Electric Power Alpha Meta was on patrol and had just spotted flashes that looked like gunfire down on the docks.
Two groups of men were shooting at each other on a pier beside a huge cargo ship. The cranes had stopped lifting containers off when the gun battle began. As she approached, the gunfire stopped. Her bubble of lightning was not quiet in the least. They all knew who was coming. Justice Girl was the only Electric Power in the city.
Other heroines in the Sisterhood of Alpha Meta Super Heroines flew in absolute silence and under the bad guy’s radar. They were Water Powers, Air Powers, but mostly Telekinetic Powers. While Electric Powers were the most powerful of all Alpha Meta women, Justice Girl envied the other heroines’ ability to sneak up on bad guys.
The blonde, blue-eyed super heroine flew straight as an arrow down to land between the two groups of gunmen. She dispersed her lightning ball at the last second, sending bolts in every direction. Of the thirty-odd gunmen, twenty-six were instantly zapped unconscious. The remaining men were knocked down by the concussive blast, and a few stunned by being grazed by energy bolts.
She struck a pose, hands on hips, and glared at the few coherent men. They gawked at her, looking dazed. But she noticed they all raked her shapely body several times with their eyes.
“Justice Girl?” one groaned. “Figures.”
There was no mistaking the busty blonde for another super heroine or FEM Fighter. Her white, strapless leotard, with high cut legs hugged her curves snugly, with lightning flashes across her hips. She finished her costume with a red mask, opera gloves, and thigh boots. The Sisterhood gold ankh hung from the golden choker around her neck.
“Halt in the name of justice!” she demanded. One of the men sat up and pointed his pistol at her. “I will fry your brains, boy!”
She formed a small wall of electricity between her and that man. He pulled the trigger half a second too late, so his bullets all vaporized. And then she pushed that “shield” of electricity toward the gunman. He screamed like a ten year old girl when it zapped him.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you, idiot,” she muttered. Then she shouted in a commanding voice, “I know which ones of you are still awake. Release your weapons, or I will…”
Her voice trailed off when a reddish-purple vortex formed above her. She could’ve created an electrical vortex like that, but not that color. Indeed, she wasn’t sure how that was possible. Besides, electricity was her element. She couldn’t be zapped by it.
“Who is doing that?” she demanded loudly. “Show yourself.”
Instead of answering, purple lightning erupted out of the vortex. Mini-explosions erupted everywhere that lightning struck, all among the unconscious, helpless men. Panic filled her. She couldn’t allow that…whatever it was…to injure or kill one of the gunmen. So she sent a powerful bolt of lightning into the vortex.
That got a response.
The vortex flashed super bright, and then plunged straight down to her. The vortex swallowed her before she could even squeak in surprise. Justice Girl felt herself yanked off the ground. All she saw was flashing red, purple, and black for a moment, before she slammed into the soft earth face first.
“Oh, that hurt,” she groaned. Justice Girl rolled to all fours and shook the cobwebs out of her head.
Grunts and growls filled the air. The blonde heroine lifted her eyes. She blinked. Shook her head and looked again.
“Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore.”
Monstrous looking men… Men? Bipedal, mottled greenish-gray skin, creatures wearing only loincloths snarled and shouted at the strange vortex hovering above them all. The monsters easily stood seven feet tall, all with massive, muscular bodies covered in ritual scars and hideous tattoos. Some carried spears with stone spearheads, others cudgels. One of them stood in their midst in pelt robes, a bull’s skull with long curled horns strapped to his head. He shook a gnarly staff with feathers and tiny skulls dangling off. The staff was glowing blood red.
“A shaman?” she muttered.
Some kind of magic user, at least, because he was fending off the purple and red lightning dancing all around the group. The larger, more savage looking creatures thrust their flint-tipped spears and stone axes at the lightning, despite more and more of them being zapped down.
Justice Girl wasn’t sure what to call them, but orcs came to mind. Their bestial faces had massive lower jaws with tusks jutting up. That alone said orc to her. They were shouting in some deep, bestial language. Mostly, it sounded like grunts to her.
“What the hell are you?”
The shaman looked at her. His dark, fierce eyes narrowed, and then he pointed his staff at her. It flared. So Justice Girl reached out with her Power, and pulled in all the electricity available. Not that much. Where was their power grid? The vortex, and an approaching thunderstorm, provided the only electricity to summon.
She barely had enough for a shield before a blood red fireball shot at her. Her shield dissipated it, but the force still knocked her back on her butt.
“What was that?” she cried. “That’s never happened before.”
The blonde heroine started summoning more electricity, prepared to form a bubble around herself for protection. She caught a break when the shaman had to return his focus to the vortex.
The shaman barked a command in their harsh language. More than half of the other creatures turned their full attention on her, and promptly charged. Her eyes rounded. She didn’t have enough electricity to form the bubble of lightning and fly, so she expended what little she had by throwing small bolts into the charging orcs.
They started dropping, but she had to hit a few twice to take them down. A nearby, natural lightning bolt gave her a surge of electrical power. The lightning bubble formed around her, and Justice Girl lifted off the ground half a second before the orcs plowed her under.
“This is insane,” she cried. “Am I unconscious and dreaming?”
Her lightning bubble drew the attention of the vortex. It started hitting her with lightning, too. Then the shaman began hurling fireballs at her as well. Only, the vortex started to pull at her, while the shaman’s bolts pushed her.
Are they trying to make me go back through the vortex?
Justice Girl resisted. And then stopped.
“What is wrong with me?” she cried. “Of course I want to go back through. I want to go home.”
And with that, Justice Girl pushed herself toward the vortex. It expanded to absorb her again. She idly wondered if it was one of those wormholes scientists talk about. Were the orcs on an alternate Earth? How many other Earths were there?
A massive explosion erupted as soon as the edge of her lightning ball touched the vortex. Justice Girl felt sucked in once again, purple, red, and black flashing all around, and then she shot out and slammed into the concrete street.
“I’m sure that broke something,” she groaned, head spinning.
Only it was different this time. She didn’t recognize that block, and the skyline looked wrong. The scent of the ocean was gone as well. Two raven-haired women were squared off in a fight, one of them clearly a super heroine. The vortex literally thundered off to one side, leaves, sticks, and grasses following her out of it. And then…
“Crap!”
The shaman and his beasties came flying out of the vortex. They scrambled into defensive stances, looking around with awe. Even the shaman looked rattled. Then one of the two women facing off with each other shouted.
“I am your mistress! Attack Ms Patriot! Seize her. I want her alive!”
Justice Girl looked at the woman in a US Flag themed costume. The name Ms Patriot fit. Both women were very tall, with long black hair. The woman that spoke had glowing green eyes, wild hair whipping all around, and wore a little black dress and boots. The other raven-haired beauty wore a red and white striped corset top, blue star-spangled bikini bottoms, and red thigh boots and gloves.
“Ms Patriot?” Justice Girl said. She noticed the golden belt around her waist. “Are you a super heroine?”
“I am, and you are?”
“Justice Girl. An Ocean City super heroine,” she said. She pointed at the other woman. “And she is?”
“Wicked Wanda Wiltshire,” Ms Patriot said. “A witch and a criminal. And your friends that followed you through?”
She shrugged. “Orcs, I think. Not my friends.”
“Get them both!” Wicked Wanda commanded.
The orcs stared at the witch, and then looked at the two heroines. Then they looked all around. Yeah, they looked confused.
The shaman pointed his staff at Ms Patriot, who just watched him warily. Justice Girl cried out, and propelled herself straight into the other heroine. She body-checked Ms Patriot out of the way just a heartbeat before a powerful fireball streaked through the air.
The shaman surprised them all when he then turned his fury on the witch. The witch cursed a blue streak, as the two of them began battling with fireballs and lightning.
