Chapter 34
Hot Chick Boutique, Wednesday, 9:30 PM…
Brandy Benton scooped up the rejected garments left scattered around the dressing room. She quickly scanned for damage, then got them back on their hangers, and hurried back out into the showroom. There were two coeds browsing, separately. One in the blouses, the other looking at heels.
Another half hour, and I can close, she thought. And then Justice Star can hit the streets.
Most of Hot Chick Boutique’s stock was for college coeds wear out to have a wild time in clubs. Club wear. Dance wear. Hot and sexy heels. Amazing handbags. And jewelry. Brandy sold it all. Some strippers, and the occasional hooker, also shopped there. The shop was in a club district halfway between the university and Sugar Town.
“Is there anything I can help you with?” she asked the girl over in blouses as she returned items to the racks. “Anything specific you are looking for?”
“No. I’m just looking.”
Okay, a shopper not a buyer. But there was always a chance the girl would find something she just couldn’t live without. So she hurried over to the girl looking at shoes.
“Hi, I’m Brandy. Those Casadei Blades are super comfy as heels go,” she said. Brandy indicated her own feet. A matte black pair just like the coed was holding sheathed her feet. “So comfy I wear them all day here at work.”
The girl looked her over. So Brandy struck a pose. She wore the clothes she sold, so was decked out in a pink cocktail dress and black heels. The potential customer looked impressed.
“Yeah, I love the shoes, but the price…” she shrugged. “$775 is a bit steep from me. Maybe after I graduate and get a real job.”
Brandy smiled and nodded. She heard that way too often. But then again, the high end heels were there mostly to pull in customers. So she guided the girl over to an adjacent section.
“Now these heels are just as hot and sexy, but much more affordable,” Brandy said. She picked up a pair of hot pink pumps. “These are just $75. Super sexy, too. I wear these all the time.”
The other girl joined them, and Brandy quickly fitted them both with some sexy stilettos and sealed the deal. Actually made some money. But as soon as they departed, and the boutique was empty, she made a mad dash into the back. Up the stairs and into her apartment above the shop.
The young brunette hiked up her skirt and sat on the pot. Oh, what a relief. “I didn’t think they’d ever leave.”
After washing her hands, Brandy checked her face and long, brown hair. Once again wondering if she should trim her bangs, abandon that look completely, or hang in there. To bang or not to bang. That was always her question.
“I need a trim,” she whispered, brushing at the bangs down in her eyes. Then hearing the front entry’s bell, she slid on some lipstick and rushed back down stairs. She found a middled-aged white man with a beautiful black woman. Not a girl. A woman, and she was familiar. “Oh. I mean, welcome to Hot Chick Boutique. Is there anything I can help you with?”
The man smiled. Brandy’s eyes locked on his right hand, palming the woman’s right boob. She couldn’t believe he thought it okay to reach around her and just cop a feel like that in her shop. But she said nothing, mostly because the identity of the woman rattled her.
Tanika Grayson, the former Assistant District Attorney, she thought. And formerly Purple Avenger.
“Heels,” Tanika said. “Really nice, sexy heels.”
Brandy nodded, not trusting her voice. She indicated the shoe section and followed them over. The old man couldn’t keep his hands off Tanika. She didn’t exactly blame him. The former ADA was gorgeous. And word was she’d been forced into prostitution after being captured, unmasked, and then escaping sexual slavery. She just didn’t escaped the gutter.
How can I help her?
She glared at the man’s back. He was obviously paying for her time, body, and God only knew what else. Was he her sugar daddy? Had she graduated from the gutter of street walking to being a rich man’s kept woman? Her first impression of the man didn’t help her to think of it as an upgrade.
“Do you have Christian Louboutin shoes?”
“Of course,” she cried. Okay, despite the terrible situation, she might make a nice profit. “Strappy stilettos, pumps, boots… What is it you are looking for?”
“Pumps,” Tanika said.
“I’ll be choosing which pair we purchase,” the man said. He wrapped an arm around Tanika, copping a firm feel as he pulled her up into a sloppy kiss. A kiss that made Brandy flinch back. “Something with very high, thin heels. Right?”
“Anything you want, Daddy,” Tanika said. She turned to Brandy, a hint of pink heating her cheeks. “I prefer So Kates, but Big Daddy here might prefer Hot Chicks.”
“Well, we have both,” Brandy said, so glad to have something else to concentrate on. “Color?”
“Black or red,” Big Daddy said. “No. Purple.”
Tanika let out a barely discernible grunt. So he knew exactly who he was fucking. Sadness swept through Brandy as she found five pairs of purple pumps. Tanika checked the boxes, rejecting two that were the wrong size. Then she pulled on the first pair. So Kates with matte purple finish. Looked absolutely amazing on her. Big Daddy had her put on both shoes and strut around like a stripper.
Horrified, Brandy chose to find more purple shoes that would fit her. Tanika continued to perform like a stripper, all but giving her Big Daddy a lap dance. Brandy wasn’t sure what she’d do if it devolved that low. But in the end, Big Daddy paid for two pairs of Christian Louboutin So Kates, and two pairs of Hot Chicks. Some earrings and necklaces took the total to just over $3000. The largest single purchase since she’d inherited the boutique from her late aunt.
Brandy watched the man lead the former heroine to a top of the line Mercedes Benz. Tanika immediately leaned over into his lap and started sucking dick. Brandy reeled back, quickly locked the door, and flipped the sign to CLOSED.
“Close enough to closing time,” she muttered, unable to look outside anymore. “That is so disturbing.”
She quickly put the cash register money tray in the safe, and hurried upstairs. She would do the accounting later. But first…
Locking the ground floor stairwell door, she hurried up and locked the door atop the stairs, too. Double security. Steel high security doors as well. Then she went to the front window, leaving the lights off. The Mercedes was still parked at the curb.
Going to her bedroom, she went into the closet and opened the rather large safe there. Inside was her super heroine costume. She wore her Object of Power all of the time, since it was a silver pinkie ring with a small ruby. Her favorite piece of jewelry, for many reasons.
Brandy pulled on her suit first: red, white, and blue stars and stripes body suit, with plunging neckline and high cut legs. She pulled on her white thigh boots, then snapped the red choker around her neck. After gluing her red mask on, she picked up her blue opera gloves and headed for the back stairs down into the attached garage off the alley.
“I am Justice Star!”
Down in the garage, she used security cameras linked to her phone to ensure the alley was clear of witnesses. Then she cranked up her red racing motorcycle, hit the open button for the garage door, and tore out of there like a bat out of hell. The garage door was set to automatically close.
She whipped down the alley, out into the street, and around to the corner. Justice Star rolled to a stop just as Big Daddy’s Mercedes pulled away from the curb. Since Tanika was not left behind on the sidewalk, she followed covertly. Followed him back into Sugar Town and to a hooker hotel.
Justice Star grimaced as she watched Tanika transfer everything purchased to the trunk of her car, and then lead the man into the hooker hotel. He came back down and left an hour and a half later. It was another twenty minutes before Tanika came out. Justice Star began to start her bike to ride over and confront her, but Tanika struck up a conversation with a large black man. And into the hotel they went.
“Jesus Christ, woman, how many men…” She stopped and sighed gustily.
The twenty-two year old, second year heroine, started her bike after about twenty minutes of waiting. Her timing was perfect, because Tanika walked her latest trick back out just a few minutes later. Justice Star toed it into first, hit the gas, and then skidded up behind Tanika’s car. The john hurried away, while the ex-heroine just rolled her eyes.
“Hello, Tanika. Long time no see,” Justice Star said, dismounting. She slowly walked up to the former comrade in crime fighting. “You look good. Considering.”
Tanika looked her up and down rather dismissively. “That little super heroine strut doesn’t scare me like the other street people, so calm your skinny ass down, girl.”
“I’m not trying to intimidate. I want to help you.”
Tanika flinched, averted wet eyes. “I don’t want your help.”
“Maybe. Maybe not,” she said. “But you need my help. This life it not you. You are Valkyrie. A heroine by birthright.”
“I’m a broken woman,” she snapped, tears now flowing. “You don’t know what they did to me!”
“Actually…”
“No! King Pimp broke me. He broke me,” she cried. “When they unmasked me. Showed everyone my secret, I was destroyed. And King Pimp knows all of our secrets, like how to brainwash and tame us. I’m not Purple Avenger any more.”
“Actually, I’ve heard different,” Justice Star said. “Little rumors of Purple Avenger spotted here and there. And rumors of another unknown heroine striking quick and brutally, before just vanishing into the night.”
“Sometimes I witness things. Things I can’t ignore,” she whispered. “Doesn’t mean I’m back. If the bad guys truly believe I’ve returned to being Purple Avenger, then they will come after me and take me down forever.”
“Don’t be dense, Tanika,” the younger heroine said. “We both know that hammer will fall sooner rather than later. You are too famous as a heroine and Assistant DA. You are much too beautiful to ignore for long. Maybe it’ll be King Pimp snatching you off the street. Maybe it’ll be a mob family with vengeance in their hearts. Time is running out for you, unless you let us help you.”
Tears flowed down the African-American’s face. She looked all around, fidgeted, and finally rushed to her car and sped away. Justice Star shook her head.
Maybe I didn’t handle that well, but I told her the truth she needed to hear.
She looked up and around. Sugar Town was the brightest, flashiest district in Grimme City. Despite that, it was the darkest and most dangerous. A blight on the city, on humanity. She had to convince her friend to abandon that district, that life, before it was too late.
