Chapter 6
“Hey, girl,” Adrienne cried when Heather came in the front door. “How was your flight?”
The two beauties rushed together and hugged affectionately. While Adrienne was in a white mini-dress and heels, hair up in a high pony, Heather had flown in pink and gray yoga pants, over-sized sweatshirt, and flip-flops.
“It was okay, but that’s not my favorite way to fly, if you know what I mean,” Heather said, grinned and winked.
“Glad to hear that, because…”
“No rest for the wicked?”
“Sorry, but the truly wicked are afoot and kidnapping beautiful young celebrities,” the brunette said. Adrienne grabbed one of the curly-haired strawberry blonde’s bags. “Come, I’ll help you take your stuff upstairs, but then we have to go.”
They carried Heather’s two suitcases up to her room. Then she took a moment to visit the bathroom, while Adrienne used the home security system to scan the next door neighbors to ensure there would be no witnesses. The land behind her house was a wildlife preserve, never to be developed. Just forest. For miles and miles.
“I’m ready,” Heather said, fluffing her long tresses. She crossed her arms before her chest. “Virtue.”
Silver light flashed, obscuring her for a fraction of a second, leaving spots in Adrienne’s eyes. Where Heather had stood, a costumed super heroine struck a pose. Virtue Girl stood tall, silver-blonde hair with long bangs, blue eyes, and a spectacular body sheathed in a stark white corset-teddy costume with a large silver V. A silver tiara bisected her forehead, with white bracers on her forearms, with silver trim. White lace-up knee boots protected her feet.
Virtue Girl stepped out into a clattering stiletto heel strut and wagged her brows. “How do you like me now?”
“I love both of your personas equally,” Adrienne said. Then she crossed her arms. “Virtue.”
Golden light flashed, and she felt the tingle of magic ripple though her now even more shapely body. She reached up to touch the golden tiara, then her hands dropped to smooth her own white costume. She gave her breast cups and thigh boots a tug up, just to be safe. Then she licked full, glossy red lips and winked.
“But this is how I like myself best.”
“You are stunning,” Virtue Girl said. “And so powerful. An inspiration to me and other young women around the world.”
“Awww, hush, you’re making me blush.”
“Then why did you nod in agreement?”
Ms Virtue laughed, giving her sidekick a playful shove. “Oh my God, I can’t believe you went there. Did you vacation with bad girls?”
“Of course I did. I wanted to have a good time.”
Ms Virtue rolled her eyes, but turned to the door out to the balcony. She led Virtue Girl out, and looked around. It was a beautiful, sunshiny day. But dark things were happening in Nexxus City that only super heroines could deal with, so she paused to lockup and activate her security system via an app on her phone. Then she leapt up and flew out over the vast forest behind her house. Virtue Girl followed fast on her heels, as they streaked just over the treetops for several miles.
“We’re going to meet up with Ms Wondrous and Starfire,” she said. “I’ve received some information about the men kidnapping celebrities.”
“Oh my God, I heard about Irina Hoffman,” Virtue Girl said. “That makes four now, right?”
“Yes. I’ve received information that the human traffickers are still in the city, with all four women, and plan to kidnap one more before leaving.”
“Leaving?”
“I’m told they are Russians.”
“That ought to make it easier to find them,” the blonde teen said. “How many Russians are in Nexxus City as any given time?”
“I checked that. There are twelve hundred Russian ex-pat families living in the city and suburbs, with close to a thousand more singles. And those are just the ones with official records.”
“Okay, maybe not that easy to find and track.”
They flew to Nexxus Park, finding their comrades in crime-fighting waiting atop an observation deck. The Virtue Duo landed before the other two costumed heroines, Ms Virtue going straight into a hug with Ms Wondrous, Virtue Girl hugging Starfire. Then they swapped out for more hugs.
Ms Wondrous looked spectacular in her shiny, metallic electric-blue bodysuit, with a large boob window and long sleeves. The raven-maned heroine’s mask was a matte black, while her opera gloves and thigh boots were black patent.
“Thanks for meeting with us,” Ms Virtue said. “We have a situation here.”
“Exactly,” Starfire said. The redhead flipped a long, fire-red braid over her shoulder, Kelly green eyes locking on Ms Virtue. “My research finds four hot, young female celebrities in the city this week. Of course, your definition of ‘hot and young’ might differ.”
Starfire looked amazing in her shiny metallic red suit, with plunging neckline and high cut legs. The redhead’s mask was red as well, but her choker, belt, opera gloves, and thigh boots were all a metallic gold.
“Yes, I only found four celebrities in town I think might be targets of the kidnappers,” Ms Virtue said. “My biggest concern is we choose wrong and the Russians snatch up someone different. But, I think we need to protect Country singer Jessy Albright, actress Ariana Merlot, and super models Petra Romanov and Carina de Monaco.”
“Those are the four I identified,” Starfire said. “I’ll take Jessy. I know her, and protected her from a stalker once.”
“Great, that leaves Ariana, Petra, and Carina.”
“I’ll take Petra,” Virtue Girl said. “I’m a big fan of her work. My favorite model.”
“I got Carina,” Ms Wondrous said. “She wore a Ms Wondrous costume for Halloween last year, so she’s my favorite model of all time. Go figure.”
Ms Virtue smiled, shaking her head. “I love you. Anyway, that means I’ll protect Ariana. Nice.”
Not so nice. Ariana had a reputation of being difficult. The actress had refused to meet with her and Ms Wondrous the previous day. She’d really hoped one of the others would’ve volunteered to take her.
“According to my information, Petra and Carina are only here until Saturday night’s big fashion gala,” Ms Virtue said. “Jessy is a local, but is going on tour in two weeks, and Ariana is from the city, so has a condo to visit with family. I have no idea how long she’ll be in the city.”
“That sucks for you,” Ms Wondrous said, and the others giggled. “Don’t worry, the rest of us will rotate out with you once our charges are safely out of the city.”
“You’re a doll,” the blonde said, shaking her head woefully. “Anyway, it’s not about me. It’s about protecting those poor women from Russian human traffickers.”
“And we’re just the girls to do it,” Starfire said.
