As mentioned previously we would eventually like to add music, sound effects, etc. to the game.  So I would just like to get a feel for the level of interest in this feature and what your preferences are....  Please feel free to vote for more than one option....

I always play this kind of games without any sound at all. So I really couldn't care less. Save your time and effort for the story and the renders.

DoobieDoobieDoo

Music plays a huge part of the impact of many scenes in Being A DIK.

DoobieDoobieDoo

And the overall atmosphere as each scene starts.

Neph

I also play without sound. Mostly because when the sex sounds are added, or voices are added they're really bad. Or audio rips from porn. I could never get into the music with these types of games.

Cloudmoon

If you do add sex sounds, please add them on a separate audio track to any music you add. Because often the sex sounds are distracting/bad in these type of games. And if I actually enjoy the music, I have to either put up with both or have neither.

Matt Gorman

I always turn music volume WAY back on Ren'py games.

Pat

Sex sounds in AVNs are like laugh tracks on tv sitcoms: annoying and distracting

Daniel Harvischak

Audio is unimportant I would ask that you just continue the story

Evilbred

Audio is huge for setting you apart from other VN makers. A nice subtle soundtrack can really add to the emotion. A little bit of sound effects (quite background stuff, a knock or doorbell can really increase the immersion) Sex sounds can be good, just don't have repetitive porn rips that sounds like she's making the same moan 20 times in a scene.

Rob T

Basic environmental sounds and music would be fine... I probably wouldn't do sex sounds unless you have a checkbox to turn those off. Sometimes they can be fine, but a lot of times they get annoying.

Groove819

I personnally mute most of the games I play. If you want to add sound and music because it's how you envision your VN to be and it would make you more satisfied/proud of your creation go for it though.

Droosk

Good sound is a key element of all around game experiences. It is important. But note, I said good sound.

colin r

I will be forced to mute sex sounds because there are usually other people in earshot. I will also be forced to mute looping music because I can only take so many repetitions. Basically, either put in the effort to get to Being a DIK's level, or better not to waste the time.

DoobieDoobieDoo

I remember playing a game where the door knock sound effect would startle me three feet into the air, headphones askew.

Alpha Protagonist

Sex sounds, making a female happy and all are great. But the fact that overwhelmingly voted Sex sounds, and not give the Dev time to do both. Horny people.

HappyHuman

I haven't seen sex sounds done well yet in any game. Take a swing if your muse is telling you to, but I expect to hate them and to disable them seconds after I hear the first one. :(

Grey Metal Fox Games

I wouldn't mind sex sound FX added, but I have to agree with some of the other patrons with regard to most usually are terrible in other games. My vote would be to add it, BUT ONLY IF IT IS DONE RIGHT. Otherwise, not worth the time since it would degrade the complete packaged experience. For example, having great renders, animations, but the game suffers from subpar sound FX. One game I've played whereas the developer was creative enough to give each female character their own distinct sexual moans FX. This was a surprise since other developers will use the same sound FX for every scene. It may shorten production time, but in the end, isn't worth it if not done right.

tezster

If anything is added to the game, it just needs to be done well and properly blended into the game. I feel that music is the easiest to add without being distracting. It's not easy to incorporate sound effects and make it seamless/natural to the gameplay, and this is especially true with sex scenes.

Ray Provencher (Razor McBlade)

I kind of mute most of my VNs, so for me it wouldn't change anything. However, if it can add to the whole experience, or if it is something you want to make as part of the VN, then I am not opposed to it either.

L M Gillies

I always turn off the music first thing, then I always ghet surprised if there are other sound fx. I don't reallythink they add anything

Bruno Zoveralli

Maybe keeping focus on story development till a possible completed evolution and than taking time to add background and sound effects sounds could be a balanced option? I'm quite a sucker about learning how stories evolve and end so, maybe, my opinion is a little "out of ordinary".

KschN68

Well, I like background music in games. But like some people here said, it has to be done properly or not at all. And: apparently it is not quite that simple as it seems. There are countless modders for walkthroughs and gallerys out there, but I only know one modder for audio.

colin r

If you do add plot-relevant sound effects, like doorbells and phone calls, please make sure they're represented also visually or by text, so those of us playing muted can still know what's happening.

TinkleDrinker

Yea; squishing sounds, spanking, moans, and gasps would be a nice addition!

AdventureClicks

Sex sfx seem great but I’m sure I’d mute them immediatly. Please do add that option if those sfx are added!

xAnarKii

Sex sfx always seem so cringe in other games so I beg I can turn them off if added.

ace

Hmm. Shouldn't be too hard to add a slider for sex sounds vs music/other and keep them separate.

Cuadrix

Don't waste time on the sounds. Leave the sound to the imagination for a more focused and immerse experience. Cause usually the sounds are very generic and often cringy. It's gonna save both time and effort.

Walter L.

Missed the poll (somehow I don't get notifications from patreon anymore about new posts), but would like to add my two cents that I really don't care for sound in these games. I play them muted anyway, even when the devs insist they should be played with sound or music (I always turn off music in games anyway or at least put it at between 5-10% volume).

Broll

I joined after the poll closed, but I'll also say, I'm fine without sound. IMO that can be something that you come back and do after all the episodes are out.
