I'm still on a break, like the famous characters of Ross and Rachel from Friends. But it has been nearly three weeks, and I must start thinking about what I am going to do when I return to work.

All the ideas on my "big board" are complicated ones with multiple parts, requiring tight plotting, careful writing, and yeoman endeavour. I am unenthusiastic about all of the above. I want to make something requiring slapdash planning, top of my head writing, and (relatively) carefree scribbling.

I used to have a project called "bobbins.horse" where I could while away my low-energy periods with all of the above, and entertain my dear readers at the same time, but the horse has been well and truly flogged to death. So I'm unsure of my path back.

While I stare at a (metaphorical) blank page, waiting for something to emerge, Magic Eye-style, here's a page of Shelley sketches I drew on paper while watching the Glastonbury Festival coverage yesterday (and coloured today in Procreate). I was delighted with them.

These poses alone say so much about her

As I downloaded that file, I noticed the file is called "shelleys.jpeg". I looked back at the file, and had an intrusive thought. Ok, now hear me out, what do you think about "Something, Something, Across the Shelleyverse"?

Jeremy Impson

Alternate concept, "Too Many Shelleys"

Are you TRYING to get Mr. A. in legal hot water again? ;-b

TheTurtleMoves

Someone should make that yellow and black dress

How about creating a new bunch of characters, in a new setting, with no preexisting baggage? Just create 3 to 6 people off the top of your head, and see what they get up to? That wouldn't require any kind of tight plotting, etc.

This is one of the funniest suggestions I have ever read. I involuntarily laughed out loud. Your faith in me is truly beautiful. Can you imagine the comments under these comics? As the emeritus maven of the comments section, I think you probably can. I'm not sure I'm currently constitutionally strong enough to read them.

But it is also a very fun thought experiment, I love it. It made me realise that I always start with an empty room, or street, or town, or whatever, and wait to see who turns up.

Brian Tatosky

These are so delightful. They look analog colored with marker as well. Really great! And you're not helping with my crush on a fictional character

Brian Tatosky

I think you mean "Not Enough Shelleys" :)

Will Shetterly

I'm totally cool with you doing whatever's fun and easy. Maybe some vignettes instead of full stories?

C Cooke

I really enjoyed your short sequence when Glenn, Charlotte, and Claire tried to fix Dean's problems by plopping him on a bus. There are so many random weird/funny/tragic public transportation encounters that would only take a couple of panels using characters never seen before or since. Anyone who rides the coaches, buses, subway, or tube can probably rattle off at least a dozen stories.

Nathan Myers

You are delighted with them only just because they are so delightful.

John Smith

Giant Days x The Guy From Dune

William Cole

Absolutely, that's one of my faves!

William Cole

All Shelleys are a gift, but I especially love bumblebee dress Shelley and ponytail & miniskirt Shelley!

John Smith

Here goes: Setting: Antarctic Research Base

John Smith

James: Serious, wants to get the work done. Amy: Likes penguins more than people. Charles: Talking penguin with strong feelings about Canadian politics. Catherine: Careerist but sociable. Nemo: Nervous but talented. Oliver: Wants everyone to get along.

Dude, you're in Britain! You don't need a Constitution!

I can't speak for any others, but I would greatly enjoy revisiting bobbins.{zebra}!

Love her! What a great character! She's wacky but cool. Thanks for the excellent ginger pics. (I hope you used flame-proof paper.)

I've said before and stand by it, if I could afford a stylist, I'd want John to design and pick my outfits.
