I participated in Hourly Comic Day yesterday. Every hour, you draw a comic of what you've been up to. Ideally a panel or so, but I really got into the process and it ended up very sprawling. Failure of editing or endless bounty? You decide.

Last time I did this was 2021 (see those hourlies here) and my life has changed a lot since then. I find the process of doing this a little exposing, but there we are.

This is a truly epic Hourly Comic John! I especially love the bookstore friends portrait drawing session!

Mark

Sorry, dude, but Hannah Fry is out of all of our leagues!

Dean Reilly

If you dress as a calculator, she may mistake you for the eponymous Batman villain. Maybe try memorizing pi to fifty decimal places?

WJC

Lovely daily comic day.

Rehevkor

A proper epic day

Wavey Davey

To answer: Yes, reading it, and enjoying it v. much.

Katherine Wharton

Thank you, John! I enjoy reading Alex Bellos' books about maths and numbers if you would like to read about them. Sorry to hear about your relationship.

Thought I'd identify with the very decent Quordle score the most, but no, it's glasses slipping down for ten minutes. A whole separate emotion.

Pete Ashton

That was great. I love a good mundane autobio comic and you're very good at it.

Julian Pie

I love this whole comic. I particularly enjoyed 16.45, as someone also living in a wet town in West Yorkshire.

Thomas MacColl

We had a holiday in the Otley area a couple of years ago, including walking the dog in that same forest and delicious fish and chips by the river - lovely place!

Simon

Your impression seems perfect. But can you keep it up for an hour talking about Wilson to camera?

Christian Brady

A solid day, it seems to me. Now to get you on David O’Daugherty’s “What did you do yesterday” podcast!

John C. Kirk

It's an interesting point about drawing the comic simultaneously with the day in question. If I tried something like this, it would wind up being very recursive, with most of the panels showing me hunched over a drawing tablet! Regarding life drawing, I agree with your comment about how difficult it is to sit still for 10 minutes. I've tried to do that for the duration of one pop song (3-4 minutes) and that was a struggle. By contrast, being naked in front of a room full of people is the easy bit!

Louise Hornor

Gary will not find love on the apps, nor in the dog parks.

Daniel Sroka

I love this comic. The subject, the format, the drawing style. (The walk in the park frame? Perfect!) Your observations of a normal day are spot on and relatable, and the loose but crafted illustrations complement them perfectly. I could seriously read a whole book of this.

C.J. Pitchford AKA Databoy

Best of luck on your quest to "woo" a Beautiful, Academic, Intellectual! Your BAI awaits, BOO! Best getting to the woo!!

Luke Drotos

Desmond pestering you about the comic’s priorities coming right before having fish dinner implies that he was cooked for his crimes against passion

Karl Kaplan

Loved this! The peek into your life, thoughts, routines and process was a delight! The art was loose but so full of energy and character. Loved the sketches from the art group. Thank you for sharing this!

TheTurtleMoves

One of the best such days I have ever seen Didn’t know you were a fellow aged singleton Sorry mate Rough one for us

I *love* the forrest composition. The acribbled trees and the way it takes up the entire page, and the deer of course. We only see the young deer because those that survive to be old deer did so by learning to stay away from humans.

William Cole

A delight! So, was *Gary the model for Archie the Wendigo?

RJ Dial

..now this was some interesting stuff. Probably the most time I will spend on one Internety thing today. Tell Gary that for men seeking women, the apps are a one way street and he is going the wrong way. If he too is an artist, set up in the park and start drawing. It will get the best of the ladies curiosity and they will just have to see what you are doing. Then he has to turn on the charm..

Jason Clements

Actually I'm impressed by amount of events in your day, given that you also had to stop and draw them all too. And you can tell "Gary" that he's not alone in not liking dogs... edit: damn, just realised this thing broadcasts my name. I hope I'm not visited by the Dogs are Gods vigilantes late at night

Carlo Condo

Reading this on the phone, there is an unavoidable button at the bottom of the screen with “Edit your pledge”. It’s as if John is telling me “You now know what my days look like. I either deserve more money or none at all, but the status quo WON’T DO.”

Anders Widebrant

Scrolling down through the forest to juust catch a glimpse of the deer was delightful!

Brian Tatosky

Yep, the first X-Files movie was the shark jumping moment, so yeah Season 6 is dead on.

Alan Millar

I do enjoy a bit of Hannah Fry, but I won't reveal which bit Your day, John, is so alien to me culturally and socially but I'm on holiday this week and I'm fighting the urge to attempt to recreate it

E

I am actually reading this. Thank you, especially for the accurate depiction of THE APPS

Ken Kleinman

Happy to be putting my two bits into the the pot to support your lifestyle, John. Sorry to hear about your Bosch. And your relationship.

Kerry Donny-Clark

Always reading what you post, always enjoying it. Glory be that's a nice, full day.

Matt Taylor

The best compliment i can give this comic is that i had cancelled my Patreon sub because i needed to save money and i wasn't reading as much of your comics as i wanted to, but damn it this pulled me back in again. Resubscribe!

scarygoround

Thanks Matt! I will endeavour to continue to entertain you

scarygoround

I am trying to imagine your day now Alan! I did not realise I was such a wild child. Enjoy your holiday!

Alan

Greatly enjoyed. Do you have many 75 yo readers in Seattle?

Rimbo (he-him)

Read the whole thing, but had to wait until now to have time to. Lovely diary.

The Larsen Project

Really enjoyed this year’s set from you! I like that you meandered a bit. Always enjoy your pencil drawings. So much energy in those!

scarygoround

Thanks Christine. I've been tired all week after churning those out but I really enjoyed making them.

scarygoround

Thank you! I've not done a census recently Alan, it may be up to you to get boots on the ground and find your fellow travellers. I have readers of all ages and you are far from the lone septugenarian.

The Gebia Legendarium

Cool, this just got me started on illustrating a part of my African Mythological book 3... I think that's when you get even one patron support. Right?
