We're a month off the release of issue 1 of Great British Bump-Off: Kill Or Be Quilt and Dark Horse have released an early 5-page preview which I am pleased to share with you. Order it from your local comic shop. They will know what to do.

"Dark Horse Comics presents The Great British Bump-Off: Kill or Be Quilt, a new cosy mystery from John Allison (Giant Days, Steeple) and Max Sarin (Giant Days, Wicked Things) following up to their hit murder mystery series The Great British Bump-Off. Writer John Allison, illustrator Sarin, colorist Sammy Borras (The Great British Bump-Off, Bunny vs Monkey), and letterer Jim Campbell (Welcome to the Maynard, Monsters Are My Business) combine their skills in four issues for the perfect patchwork of comic hilarity. Issue #1 arrives Spring 2025 and will also feature a variant cover illustrated by Lissa Treiman."

Excellent work from Sarin as always, Mildred looks great in their style. Was also really nice of them to invite Desmond (or nice that he blessed us with his presence, either way). Also I assume this takes place after Wobbly Head?

Richard Pringle

Does anyone know a good comic shop in or near Shrewsbury, UK?

Sean Kinlin

I was just wondering if Max had drawn Mildred before - this is the first time, isn't it?

scarygoround

It's a bit thin round there if I remember rightly - I think there's a decent shop in Oswestry?

scarygoround

That was Max's first Mildred, a little treat for long time readers.

Hoping that Fishman paw is a Chekov's gun...

Seeing more collaboration between you and Max is such an absolute joy. Does Max work traditionally, or digitally?

Ross Webster

Love it, love it, love it!!! Again, everyone, especially Mildred, looks great in Sarin's style! Great little cameo from Des. I absolutely adore the panel with the reflection of the town in Shauna's sunglasses. I will definitely be among the first in line to read Kill Or Be Quilt!

Alaric Shapli

Wow! The Tackleford Mystery Girls, fully assembled! Even if it's just for a moment, it's great to see them all together again.

Joseph Woolnough

Any day with a new Allison & Sarin colab. is a good day! Love the wee hidden Steven & Greg Universe on the fourth page, too

Well, that's not a cleat knot. It will probably do, but don't expect a fast get away. If she has bumpers on cords she needs to know the clove hitch, but that's easy. This would be my list: 1. Cleat knot 2. Clove hitch 3. Two half hitches to tie up to the docking bollard 4. Figure eight so your line doesn't come out of the pulley you're using 5. Bowline She must know a square knot already. I have maybe used a sheet bend, but she has no sails. All the boats I've handled are small enough to only have on type of rope mostly.

Alaric Shapli

Don't touch that finger, Lottie. You don't know where it's been.

angelo

I do like that you, like Christie, have two detectives who can alternate your mysteries. Now which is the Hercule Poirot and which is the Jane Marple?

angelo

Charlotte seems to have done some globetrotting and has the hapless sidekick so I guess she’s closer to Poirot while Shauna has the baking chops and anchor tattoos of Ms. Marple.

William Cole

John, are you familiar with your compatriot, Mr. Todd Briefly? He has a great song, "The Extensive Waterways of the United Kingdom", which seems very apropos here.

Alaric Shapli

John has more than two p[potential detectives. Any one of the former Mystery Kids could at some point end up as the star of a series of mysteries. But, then, Agatha Christie had other detectives than just the Big Two, as well. (Note also that most of Lottie's Solver stories aren't really mysteries, though, of course, the current one is.)

Jeni Gooley

Not a double granny knot? 😬

angelo

Jack is definitely the Colonel Race- fun to have around but even in the books where he’s the main detective someone else winds up solving it. Linton would be Lamb from The Clocks since he’s the son of Superintendent Battle and in that book is mostly investigating to get a girl and keep Poirot from getting bored. Glenn is Hastings.

angelo

And Charlotte’s Solver setup is a little reminiscent of Parker Pyne’s agency. Shelley is the Ariadne Oliver of the universe. Sonny would be Satterthwaite from the Mr Quin stories and Three Act Tragedy- gets along with everyone, bi.

angelo

Claire and Mildred are the hardest ones for me. I don’t just want to give them the Tommy and Tuppence leftovers… (Amy and Ryan are closer to that but are never at the front of any mystery-solving).

angelo

I assigned Sonny Sattherthwaite so Mildred can be Quin since the cousins are often paired together. Claire, specifically in The Fire Inside, is Doctor Sheppard from Roger Ackroyd.

Pierpaolo Di Camillo

How long will it be before the boat drifts away? I can't wait to read it. The artistic duo Max & John are always a guarantee of great things. Like seeing that Steven Universe is on vacation in England with his father.

Nick Gibbins

p.2, panel 1: that bow breast line is rather slack. Could this be Chekhov's mooring? p.3: Little Claire has a premonition - looks like it might indeed be Chekhov's mooring. p.5, panels 1 and 2: that's...not how you tie off a line. Definitely Chekhov's mooring. All of this is making me feel extremely anxious.

Nick Gibbins

p.3, panel 2: "your barge holiday" That misuse of nomenclature is fighting talk in the narrowboat community. As ane fule kno, a narrowboat is half the width of a barge. Lottie is treading a very dangerous line, and one can only be thankful that Uncle Jim wasn't there to hear her transgression.

angelo

There is a part of the short story ‘Motive v. Opportunity’ where she fondly talks about experimenting with ink as a child. Jane Marple is hardcore.

Tom K

Definitely like Sarin’s Mildred. I hope this new angular look carries forward.

If this boat gets hurt I will be traumatized

Andrew Farrell

Two types of people - those that feel looming dread when they see that knot, and those that feel that they should feel looming dread.

Alexis Greenwood

As a public librarian in Canada, I'm constantly telling people about the hilarity of your work. I buy all your comics - looking forward to this one!

Aaron Cloutier

That knot put my stomach in knots...
