While my break is drawing to a close, the hiatus won't hit the website until June 22nd, when an eight-week wave of interminable reruns will hit the shore. But it's the best possible rerun I could do, the Murder She Writes 15th anniversary edition that I had intended to print, with some tiny visual tweaks (let's call them "rectifications of slapdashery") and a new cover, which I drew this morning.

Addendum: in the comments, someone mentions an image that ran on the website before MSW started in 2011.

🎵 Skulls, skulls, everywhere there's skulls...

Lovely to see Shelley and Lottie share the cover this time around! Striking title font too, with the character coded colour switch. I'm looking forward to reading this once again, and seeing how many tweaks I notice.

Jon Sibley

I love this story so much, I do hope that you decide it does warrant the pain of printing it again.

With the exception of one page where I added some new drawings to make it up into a "proper" page from a filler done for the print version, it was mostly filling in little bits I hadn't coloured properly and tidying up loose lines drawn with a hot pen.

Chris J. Zähller

Technically not a font, as it appears to be hand-lettered.

William Cole

The comic that introduced "putting me off my 'grams" to my personal idiolect!

Jack Christmas

Yes, I should probably have said lettering or calligraphy, but you got my meaning

scarygoround

It's just a question of whether I have a big unsold box of them in my house, there are a lot of boxes on the shelves at the moment

scarygoround

Sounds like pendants on the move, classic pendantry

I still have the "original" original pre-publication cover image that never made it to an actual release. It's been fifteen years, I can't even remember where I got it from, but I thought the visuals (a bloody red track in the snow, color matched to Shelley's hair) incredibly striking. I wonder why it was never used.

scarygoround

I know the image you're talking about, I just dug it out. It wasn't a cover, it was a half page image to flag the fill-in for Bad Machinery when it originally ran. It was very hastily put together! Looking at the file dates, when I drew it, the story in question only had five pages and no others had been written! Slapdash times. I've added the image to the post so others can see.

Jon Sibley

Fair enough. Sounds like Page 45 and Gosh are not doing their job! 😉

Ross Webster

What a lovely new cover! Also hoping a reprint will be worth the time and effort!

Luke Drotos

Are there any other one-shots you’d want to remaster or re-release online? I’ve noticed that compared to all of your other stories, Heavy Metal Hearts + Flowers isn’t available anywhere right now.

scarygoround

THAT, Expecting To Fly, Murder She Writes are all worthy of a reprint. I don't like Heavy Metal Hearts + Flowers. It has aged poorly.

Luke Drotos

Would it have anything to do with the subject matter?

NickPG

The only thing I don't have is the print version of 'Scarodelaria' (and the first print run of 'Looks, Brains and Everything', I do have the reprint) but I don't know how many takers you'd get for that.

scarygoround

I don't ever intend to reprint anything pre-2009, that's kind of my cut off.

scarygoround

They've both sold loads of them! I'm the weak link in the chain, I struggle to sell them in person (too shiny for zine fairs, too weird for big events) when tabling at events, and many events are now so expensive to exhibit at that I don't do many because it's seldom worth the punt.

Luke Drotos

That’s a perfectly fair reason. The most I could expect for any pre-Bad Machinery material is to have them on Gumroad or as Patreon PDFS (like Girlspy and Ghosts).

I have not been able to see the website the last several days. I keep getting the message "Request Header Fields Too Large The server refused this request because the request header fields are too large." Is anyone else getting that?

scarygoround

Clear your cookies Patrick! Sorry for the inconv etc

Patrick M Fitzgerald

Despite doing that - three times - and rebooting, I'm still getting that message. I can get onto the scarygoround site, but when I try to go to badmachinery - boom!

scarygoround

Try looking at the site in incognito mode in your browser and tell me what you see.

Gerben Vos

I get that for some websites when I'm behind my work's corporate firewall (notably for two other comics, but not this one). Or some other kind of in-between proxy may be the culprit.
