ITEM! I'm currently very busy finishing up the Spring Special, coördinating a secret project with Max Sarin, and doing a rare bit of "outside" work so I'm not generating much new nonsense for the Patreon. But I would love, LOVE it if you could give me some new Q&A questions to answer, because I've run out. Previous Q&As are under the Q&A tag.

I'm always happy to answer questions on writing and art process, besties and worsties (worsties within reason), and of course my hopes, dreams and aspirations. For example, I would love to be able to confidently hang a new door in a doorframe but I feel like I will go to my grave never having done it even once.

The best questions are always a pleasant surprise leading to new corridors of thought and I believe you can ask some. YOUR MOVE.

As a bribe, here's some recent thundering nonsense from my sketch dump folder.

FIG 1: I tried to recall a musician's name through the power of drawing.

FIG 2: "Indie sleaze" cannot be real

When did you start consciously aging your characters? Esther, The Boy, and co. preparing for the end of school days is when I think I first noticed, further heightened by the intro of the Bad Machinery kids. Have you ever imagined or drawn any of your characters older than they are in whatever their latest story happens to be?

"The 'New' Scene That Celebrates Itself", that takes an old indie boy back.

What would you pitch for your Transformers story?

Anna McDuff

What are your favorite goth bands of the 1980s? Why are you so much better at writing female characters than other male comic makers? If you could make a movie of one of your comics, which would you choose and what would it be like? Any preferred directors/actors/etc?

What's the name of the musician in Figure 1?

Marc Arsenault

Have you ever painted non-digitally. Say, with a brush or spraycan?

Is there a plan or pattern to your character's names? I ask because there seems to be some latent jokes and symbolism behind some of them. First of all, I can't believe Susan made it over 50 issues without having a "Queen of De-nile" joke thrown at her (though maybe that's more an American joke). Along the same lines, is there any meaning behind Esther's name? I mean all the guys want her, massive alcohol consumption trails in her wake and I'm sure some folks getting impaled on stakes has been in the realm of possibilities with all the trouble that seems to follow her.

Best food/drink (tea/biscuit?) pairing with your comics?

Alexis Petridis managed to identify him for me. It's "King Charles". I'd seen him on one TV advert but he'd scarred me.
