Had to make a pub with a beer garden yesterday for use in a few upcoming comic pages. It took about an hour, which is longer - a lot longer - than making it up on panel would have taken. But if I use it to help layout multiple pages, I can earn the time back quite quickly. The model itself doesn't have to be perfect. And it always helps to suggest compositions I might not otherwise think of. Obviously I did not make those trees. Nice though, aren't they?

EDIT: I forgot to put the panel based on this in! You'll see the final version at the start of July (sooner if you're a $3+er).

I would happily drink in this beer garden!

But who is the lady in the short yellow dress?

"Default Sketchup 2022 lady", we've been spending a lot of time together.

Vinny

Very cozy and inviting, the tall trees surrounding the pub is a real nice touch

You could design pubs just for the pubby hell of it.

I had a look in the ledger, you definitely are.

I feel like at some point you're going to go overboard and design a really complicated building and feel like you have to use it a lot for it to have been worth your time. All of us readers are going to spend a lot of time wondering why the comic has spent months set inside a rugby stadium or something. ("Hmm, yes, the visiting team's showers are expertly designed, but why is Lottie there again considering the plot is about a gang of trained owls?")

Richard Kirk

Ooo! Tacklefield Lore Olympus crossover!

Sketchup. Is the idea you build the 3D world to help visualize the environment and spatial relationship?

scarygoround

It was originally about achieving consistency in reused locations, and helping with tricky perspective (eg areas with many tables, like school classrooms) but it also helps with composition and I've learned a lot about depth of field from working with 3D models, that I use all the time.

Lore Olympus. Has drawn/painted foreground figures and vector architecture backgrounds...
