I'm still not really drawing outside of making the comics, and trying not to beat myself up about it. But it leaves me with a shortage of Patreon-ready stuff. So here are some sketches and notes from the spring, before the year became more challenging.

They include:

A couple of Solver notes pages, including the first primitive sketches of Glenn Durgan. This story came together quickly after I abandoned the second NEMS comic. I put together some simple ideas in a shopping centre in Oxford, proof positive that sometimes inspiration just arrives.

Monster Hall Of Fame was meant to be a fill-in story but I couldn't find a shape for the story. I think I've shared a few other drawings from it.

Then there is a selection of hairstyles I came up with for my dear friend Greig Johnson. In the end he selected "The Kubrick" which was my favourite too. I don't think he's adopted it yet but I should see him over Christmas so I'll see if any fronds are descending around his collar.

Finally, some sketches while I was watching Kolchak - either the Night Stalker or Night Strangler TV movie. They're both up (illegally, I presume) on Youtube, though the quality of the former is poor compared to the visual feast of the HD latter. You're not there for the fidelity, really, let's be honest. It's just good stuff.

I love these small insights into your brain Mr Allison. Thank you for sharing!

Richard Kirk

Where is the Monster Hall of Fame? Is it just the name of the nearest building to Demond Fishman at any moment?

Ken Kleinman

It's amazing how your characters are there with so few strokes.

Eric Logan

Good observation on the long men's puffer. It does look weirdly priestly on a man, even in a way other long coats don't.

Thomas MacColl

Yes, I suppose Arsene Wenger always was rather priestly.

Tim

Glergg!

Jessica Lauren

"He's the best at what he does". You better believe it!

Steve McSheffrey

I say forget about having art or anything else for the Patreon. I'd consider it money well spent even you never posted.

Anna McDuff

He resembles a holy sleeping bag had me laughing!

William Cole

Strongly agree on the "Kubrick".

Rob Cottingham

I now understand why people looked askance at my very long puffer jacket of a few decades ago. Tonight I get to tell my teenager "Y'know, your old man was violating a few gender norms of his own in his day." (I anticipate unalloyed admiration and applause in response.)

Oh wow, I know Greig Johnson, too! Ok not personally. But he's well known to listeners of the Strange Studies of Strange Stories (formerly known as HP Lovecraft Literary Podcast) and the Rachel Watches Star Trek podcasts. And he has an underappreciated youtube channel: https://youtube.com/@greigjohnson
