This is the one where Gabrielle goes to the gay danceclub and meets some interesting ladies🤪 it's funny how that episode title becomes quite gay in Xena context, just some lesbian vampires having fun 😁 I really like it, but yeah the spooky editing gets quite annoying.. luckily the cinematography is going to improve a lot this season as they got more budget 😊 next episode is stellar, can't wait 😁😁

This one definitely grew on me after my initial watch of it. It’s not a favorite but those few scenes really are quite big in my Xenagab diary 😅 -Hunter

The camera work on this one was definitely not my favorite! Overall it’s not one I rewatch on its own, but the music is fun and of course a few scenes are worth it ;)

2 Girls 1 Episode

The music is soooo fun. But i could definitely watch those few scenes and that’s it 😅 -Hunter

Just finished the last bit of this reaction, really appreciated your discussion after the ep! Looking forward to more of S2 💕

Some say this feels like a season 1 buffy episode and i agree. Kinda chaotic, kinda bad, and kinda fun. The CGI for this episode is something...lol Xena's reaction to bacchae Gabrielle's bite though! She's down so bad she's surviving off crumbs. starving. Excited for the string of episodes coming up!

Is this episode kinda dumb and silly and filled with annoying camera work? Who cares?!? As Hunter puts it so beautifully, IT'S SO GAY. Definitely not one of my favorites in terms of plot or making a lot of sense. But it's got that scene! I just think of it as Xena's lesbian LSD trip.

FYI, Bacchus was the god of things like drinking, fertility, insanity, religious ecstasy and theater. There is a famous Greek Tragedy by Euripides (who Gabrielle met at the Athens Academy for Performing Bards) called "The Bacchae," in which the god gets revenge on a Greek king who rejected his cult by driving women into frenzy and having them tear the king apart. Also, Orpheus was a mythic figure who was considered the greatest of musicians and famously once went into Hades to save his beloved wife Eurydice. The wife gets mentioned in this episode, but her story isn't really explained. And yes, the lyre was a real instrument. It was very popular throughout the ancient world, dating back almost 5000 years ago.

I 100% agree with Tash's analysis of Xena's character, how she turned evil and what she might have been like if her village had not been raided. And the good news for Hunter is that it will only be a few more episodes before she can start judging [the fuck out of] that for herself.

MsMcGoo

Tash was fighting for her life before Gabrielle bit xena. Episode was definitely all over the place, glad they tried it but even more glad they didn’t stick with it.

2 Girls 1 Episode

Xena’s lesbian LSD trip is such a great way of putting that episode hahaha

2 Girls 1 Episode

It seems appropriate for the plot and the atmosphere they were in but yeah that camera work in the beginning was annoying as hell I can’t lie haha. I’m just taking all the flashing parts as that’s Xena’s nervous system firing on all cylinders once Gabrielle put her mouth on her 😅 -Hunter

... okay, so hunter's reaction was not what I thought it'd be, but tash's reaction BEFORE the bite, had me rollin!!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣 that was hilarious 😂 just sooo funny watching tash try sooooo hard to not give it away but was just fighting a losing battle from the word go lol🫠😉 that was funny, and I totally needed that today... sooo funny tash... 😄 your reaction was the best this time 🤣 ... as for the episode, its a TJ Scott episode, which almost always meant camera going nutty - zoom going batty... most of his episodes were like that, just not THIS crazy... he pushed the envelope and they always just let him play... I don't know who dropped the ball editing and cutting or if they truly just said, "go for it, nobody will care once gab bites xena!" 🤣 🤣 I dont think xena could have had any blood left as long as gab took at her neck... what got me was Lucy/Xena moaning and Renee/Gabrielle (I put it that way cause I totally think thats just the girls having a bit of fun) licking her lips afterwards 🤣 they just went all in on thatbut nora kay foster and adam armus wrote it, so ya never know.. . ... and the innuendo at the end 🤣 I think hunter had more of a reaction to that than the bite really, which is just funny in itself... .anyway - thanks again guys... now some really good ones coming up... the next one will give me a knotted up stomach cause of conflict... but the one after that is funny 😁 😂 can not wait for those... Oh, ps - thank you, miss hunter, friend zone still for me too - irregardless of the actions of the last 5 minutes that point otherwise 😆 🤣 it was all the bachannalia for bacchus - "the bacchae made me do it" hee hee

I saw a performance of the Bacchae about 6 months ago. They closed the show with the actors doing a curtain call to an acoustic cover track of... Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. I was losing it. 💀

Girl4Music

Watching ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ and I noticed they showed you Xena gets bitten on the neck and yet she never turns into a bacchae. They never show you Gabrielle gets bitten yet she does turn into a bacchae. When and where did Gabrielle get bitten? Are we supposed to assume the bacchae she’s dancing with are the ones to bite her? Where did they bite her? She had no mark on her neck indicating she got bitten. So it must have been somewhere else on her body. This show gets gayer and gayer the more you watch it. There’s all these queer implications that never get answered. Talk about subtext. I never realized this. And I’ve seen this episode so many fucking times.

I know there are issues with this ep but... I just love it. I am biased towards vampire stories anyway. Love they are not afraid to try something experimental and move so drastically away from the usual house style and give this ep such a different feel to it. Plus it gave them a chance to crank up the gay to an even higher setting than before. 🏳️‍🌈

Oh my god, that's incredible! I wonder if somebody in the company was a Xena fan. Or maybe they just went through the same thought process as whoever named this episode. Either way, that's perfect.

2 Girls 1 Episode

It takes some getting used to for sure but I do like the episode now haha. I still think Xena wasn’t a vampire long enough. She was sooooooo hot 😭 -Hunter

2 Girls 1 Episode

I try really hard not to give it away but I’m only human hahaha I’m glad you enjoy watching me lose it hahaha _ Tash

Lea

... 🤣 i truly do enjoy watching you lose the battle to not give anything away as an indicator to hunter... but today, you REALLY lost thst battle and its like it got worse since you KNEW ypu lost the battle 🤣 the descent is the fun part of all journeys 😆 thanks again

Girl4Music

“You described it so well.” She so did! I’d like to elaborate a little bit on that line of thought. It’s “the mission VS the love”. That’s how I refer to what Tash just described. Like most hero stories where there is a love interest involved, the hero struggles with the fact that their love can be targeted and hurt by their enemies or just villainous or selfish people. But with Xena - that anxiety is even worse because she used to be evil and those evil tendencies still live within her however buried deep down they are and the darkness can take over at any moment and therefore SHE could be the one to hurt Gabrielle. So she has these push and pull moments where she either holds on to Gabrielle with an iron grip or she just fucking abandons her and Gabrielle risks everything to follow and join up with her again because she’s so invested. What’s most striking about this though is that if you DON’T interpret Xena and Gabrielle as lovers or at least romantically involved with each other, that can actually seem quite abusive. Like some type of Stockholm Syndrome. The only reason it doesn’t seem that way is because they’re interpreted as already being together in that way. Otherwise - there’s a lot of issues that can be perceived from the way both these characters treat each other. If you just think of them as best friends with a familial-ship or mentor-ship between them, that’s not as easy to watch because they’re far too intense and intimate with each other. But if you think of them romantically and furthermore - soulmates - that makes much more sense because it’s not just them that’s doing it out of their emotional attachment to each other. It’s also a fate/destiny thing going on. So it’s just so much easier and simpler to just interpret them as a love story because that looks and feels like the natural progression. A lot less issues. We're not there yet but you definitely get a sense of when it happens. When they're suddenly so much more to each other than just friends and hero/sidekick. And I agree with Hunter, there's feelings developing for sure but we're still very much in the friend zone for now.

This was a great episode but I do agree that the direction was a bit distracting. This was directed by T.J.Scott and he was famous for using new filming techniques and style but this was a bit too much. However I wish we had more episodes like this: mythology and monsters.
