I think Nick is just very very hungover I would imagine Nick probably didn’t hear Charlie approach which is why he hasn’t turned around. It’s not like Charlie said “Hi” or anything when he entered the kitchen, so I’m not too worried at the moment. He’s probably very groggy and in need of a fry up to cure his hangover.

I love love LOVE the domesticity shown here!! As Charlie is coming down the stairs in boxers and a shirt and is not shy around Sarah. Although I can't help to think at 16 and 18 YO, Nick and Charlie are given A LOT of leeway by their parents to stay at each other's houses. In any case, my hope is that while enjoying some much needed greasy breakfast to coat the stomach and nurse his hangover, Nick opens up to Charlie. Not word vomit but at least go over the events from the previous night to start. Eventually, open up about the root cause of his traumas. I am sure Charlie will be understanding and given his familiarity with how to get treated for traumas and therapy, recommends it to Nick. Charlie can use the same line Nick did with him: "I can't fix this..." And Nick listens and begins his therapy journey. Another great page Alice. Loving the journey so far. Can't wait to see what's next and who can tell us what happened with Tao and Elle? 🤔

Sarah Nelson, I adore you. I know you know that Nick was drunk last night, and that Charlie was there to take care of him, and you didn't intervene because you trust Charlie. I love that you very likely peeked in the kitchen this morning, saw Nick, talked briefly (and we don't have to know because that is how you are...you trust Nick!), and now are leaving to give them some space...I adore your puffy coat and warm boots and cozy scarf, and the way you call Charlie "love," because you have watched from day 1 how being around Charlie makes Nick more....himself. I love that you don't make this all about you or your parenting or what people will think or say...You just watch, learn, lean in, offer kindness and practical advice (condoms included, lol)...so thank you for leaving at just the right time to give Nick and Charlie this alone space in the kitchen. I also love how Nellie stays right beside Charlie down the steps "this way...he's in there. Don't worry..." and there is something so innocent and domestic and downright charming about Charlie walking around in Nick's shirt, his boxers (sporting those bare legs) and his little socks, and how he is STILL being the one who speaks first to Sarah with an enthusiastic "Hi, Sarah!" (This shows again how confident and calm Charlie is with himself these days...we saw it "last night" at the (bleh) Green Dragon concert...he knows who he is and what he wants.) But, FSSSH...as he enters the kitchen, he takes a pause and holds the door frame for a second, taking in the scene in front of him. There are food smells, there is warm sunlight, there are two plates out (Nick's plan of 'one for me and one for my love')...and THERE IS NICK...looking like an exhausted mess from the back (that mussed hair, the slumped shoulders ). I keep thinking what Nick must be thinking right now. We know his head HAS to hurt, and I suspect he may not remember exactly everything, but he has to remember puking and yelling at Charlie. "I'm going to make breakfast exactly the way Charlie likes it...not too crunchy and not too soggy. Just right. I want him to SEE how much I love him and how that was the liquor talking last night, not me. I will make this and tea..." (and all I can see is that buried people pleaser inside him subconsciously pushing him to be the perfect boyfriend by DOING things, proving his worth, earning his spot...it's breaking me, Alice! ) "and take it up to him and he will be so happy and we can eat in bed, and Charlie will definitely eat because I made it all just the way HE likes it, and everything will be okay. I just want everything to be okay, please let things be okay!" I am kind of glad we only get Charlie's POV with the back of Nick here, and I love love LOVE how Charlie immediately goes to MEET NICK WHERE HE IS, hot mess and all, and bear hugs him from behind..."I don't give a shit about what you DO for me, I care about and love you, YOU, Nicholas Nelson. All of you...do you see that? Can you feel that? I don't know what is going on, but I do know that I'm here for it, for the good, the bad, the mess, all of it. I LOVE YOU." And MY heart stops for a moment because once again, Nick and Charlie find their own sanctuary TOGETHER, connected in the most emotionally intimate hug, and in the midst of big emotions, unspoken apologies, all the hard things life has thrown at them, frying food, post chaotic nights...all that hard is there in this room, but the HOPE and PROMISE in that hug WINS THE DAY. I honestly couldn't have said it any better. Although I wouldn't have put it past Sarah to have wisely set her alarm to wake herself up a little early so she could go and check on Nick earlier in the morning and help get him up and ready so he can get some food in him, get a shower and some aspirin, and talk with Charlie on the way to the rugby match. Sarah is still, after all, the mother of a busy teenager.

With Nick, action is love. With Charlie, love is action. This is the middle in which they meet, Nick making breakfast for the both of them, especially the way Charlie likes it, and Charlie wordlessly coming in from behind with a reassuring hug and a snuggle so they both can "recharge" as Nick likes to say. Sure, they need to talk, but not right now. This is the basic level, the heart level, the ground level where their relationship is built on the solid foundation of love in the language of action and touch and safety and trust and the safe space that they each create for the other. And all around that space we have angels like Sarah, and Tori, and Oliver, and Nellie, and all their friends. This is the safe place from where everything else begins. It's like the universe has determined that Nick and Charlie are NickandCharlie...we know. There are those to guide and support them on their way - Nellie, Tori, Sarah, Tara, Geoff etc. Mistakes and miscommunications will happen. But they seem to erase those through touch and the grace of giving each other a little space to reset. Both Nick and Charlie are radiating their love and devotion for each other on this page. I did mistake my boyfriend’s twin on the phone one time (“hi darling!”) 😳, but I don’t think it’d happen in person. It’s much easier for kids to make that kind of mistake because adult legs look alike 😉 If it’s any consolation, having been on the receiving end (having my legs hugged by a child who mistook me for their mum) I can say it is a very sweet experience, and that person was probably quite touched. Or were they not nice? In which case, boo, hiss to them—come hug my legs instead 😂

Did Nick ask Sarah to walk the dogs so he could talk with Charlie in private, apologising for last night again perhaps or maybe opening up? I mean the dogs likely had to go out anyway. I just hope that they manage to talk and/or relax a bit before possibly being interrupted by David. Charlie really is right at home at the Nelson's isn't he, walking around in his pyjamas and having Nellie follow him around. Also Nick, if you're making breakfast you better remember to make a bit for Nellie, otherwise she will try and steal yours.

Maybe it’s also due to the fact that Henry is way smaller than Nelly, so if a slide shows Henry on the ground it either means we need a very wide shot in order to see the human around him fully, or it would be Henry and some legs or some very high angle shots of the scenery. I could imagine that this is also a reason why Henry is carried around so often, then he is already in the frame
