A painful but potentially healing situation. You can’t have a real relationship of any kind without honesty. What a great idea the tent was to do this in.

I just noticed something between the previous page and this one. In 1822, Charlie dove on top of Nick to give him that hug and Nick moved him off to the side a bit when he tried to deflect. That means Charlie climbed back up on top of him so he could look him in the eye while he was talking in this page. Nick is looking up again, not quite able to believe that someone could care this much no matter what he says. He’s still struggling. Good on Charlie for holding on tight (literally and figuratively) and keeping the conversation on track. Crawling up and laying like a weighted blanket or as someone previously said like a cat (and many of us know how immoveable a cat can be when they want something), allows Nick to see how important this conversation is to both of them.
