Just went back to look at all the “Holds” since I just now really noted that Alice’s comment today was Holds part 2. Starting with Nick opening the door and Charlie falling in for a hug, there are so many blanket/sweater grabs, leg touches, hand holdings, arm squeezes, sitting as close as possible in personal spaces, face touches…and with each of these holds, you see an emotional change in both Nick’s and Charlie’s faces. Their fears and insecurities and angst and anger don’t go away, but their touches and holds ground and calm the other, reminding them they are not alone and it is all okay. Their mutual willingness to be vulnerable and to also comfort without pressure is so beautiful. Alice does such an amazing job conveying the impact of their holds throughout this section—-they have drawn it so we get to feel what it is like for N+C to be fully seen and heard in the midst of brokenness, and still be wholly loved. All portrayed with simple but poignant holds ❤️
