Loving everthing about this page and this conversation. But now I’m worried that Charlie’s going to be stuck at the top of the Ferris wheel and miss connecting with Nick or getting to the stage on time! Ack!

Alisha Buchanan

Oh good job Charlie being the supportive brother! 🥹 I love how he and Tori always have each others backs.

Emily Brown

Tori fears what she wants won’t suffice Michael will see it as sacrifice Char tries to have sway Let love find a way Soon he’ll have to take his own advice

Shannon

Oh my goodness this is painfully relatable 🥺

I know drawing these panels of the summer fete probably is a very hard and time consuming task, but you're doing it wonderfully Alice. Personally, I'm in love with the details while Tori and Charlie are on the ferris wheel. The wind blowing their hair to the different directions because of the point of view of each one, the subtle change in the background showing that the wheel is spinning, it's all so pretty and we can see you're putting a lot of passion and dedication on these. Hope you're enjoying doing them, even if it's a little bit 🩷

the attention to detail with him facing her so his hair moves with the wind 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

I just realized: if Nick is a golden retriever, Michael is a teddy bear.

I'm not asexual, but I know that if someone loves you and wants to be with you, they'll not resent you for the lack of sex. Tori probably thinks Michael will be unfulfilled because she can't give him this, but have she talked to him about it? To me, her insecurity about being his girlfriend is because society shoves down our throats what makes a couple true and complete, and once they become boyfriend and girlfriend, there will always have these standards that they'll never meet. She thinks that if she becomes his girlfriend, she won't be enough. But is it really important? Isn't everything they built over the past months more important to both of them then a couple minutes of sex? I could be wrong, but this is the interpretation I got from what Tori is saying

Rose Diamond10

It’s valid to be concerned! But as I’m sure you know time and time again Alice dodges the conventional tropes. We all have learned to trust them to tell a good story that doesn’t rely on silly misunderstandings and plot devices!

I remember how in solitaire Becky loved talking about her having sex and shit, which made Tori feel really uncomfortable and behind in comparison That combined with the fact that lots of people in her year make a big deal out of sex (as we see with Nick’s conversation with Sahar and the rugby lads) probably makes Tori feel very pressured into having/enjoying sex I hope Charlie (or someone else!) can help her realize that you can be a teenager and you can be in a relationship without having sex and that not be wrong

Unfortunately (from what my asexual friend has told me and some others) its not uncommon for them to get into a relationship where the partner knows they will lack the act of sex and they say “its fine, i love you, i dont need sex” but they do end up resenting not doing it or they find it somewhere else. Sex is a big part of the relationship for some people (which is not a bad thing) and some dont realize until theyre in the relationship for a while. There are some asexuals who will have sex because they dont “mind it” and know it matters to their partner but then there are those that really dont want to. I dont think theres anything wrong with anyone wanting or NOT wanting sex in a relationship. But it does suck when the partner (of the asexual person) doesnt realize they crave it until after. I think this is what Tori is afraid of. I’m not saying it’s impossible for someone to give up sex for their partner but this whole situation it is a valid problem to contemplate for some asexuals.

As an asexual person I’ve absolutely experienced people running away from me purely bc I’m ace. It may feel like love can conquer all, but to so many people love and sex are intertwined. They can’t have love without sex, it’s just a nonstarter

Kaz Savage

Her little side eye at the end…. 😂😂

Yasmin Fiuza

Yeah, I know. Unfortunately you'll have to look for someone who doesn't mind the lack of sex, or date other asexual people

Charlotte

Or date polyamorously. I am close friends with an ace/allo couple, and at least one of the allo person’s other relationships includes sex. Their primary romantic/emotionally intimate partnership is with their ace partner, though, and it’s been working really well for them for years. One person doesn’t necessarily have to be “the whole package.” Some of us prefer (or are at least completely fine with) a range of relationships that meet different needs within a structure of complete honesty and clear boundaries. There are a lot of different ways people can make relationships work. But we’re all so deeply conditioned to limit our options to those that fit or mimic a heteronormative/nuclear family framework, we often don’t allow ourselves to even *consider* looking outside it. Sometimes there are more workable options than seem obvious. Not always, of course, but it’s worth thinking outside the box a bit when it comes to this type of compatibility issue between people who love each other.

This is a beautiful piece of representation for the ace community and i know Alice is ace but Tori’s asexuality is shown so accurately and it means a lot coming from an ace person

Divs

Ahhhh as an ace person in a relationship..this is just so damn beautifully captured 🥺
