I just thought of something that might be a solution. At community gatherings in the States, it's not uncommon at the start for local politicians to take advantage of the crowds by delivering boring soliloquies as "opening remarks." I can easily see someone droning on for 10 minutes until Nick, Tara, and Elle get there.

Somehow I originally failed to notice all the details in the second panel. Look how BIG that stage is! It feels massive and professional with huge speakers and everything. And that’s no small crowd gathering (I’m sure all the details with their hair and clothes was fun to draw). I’d be nervous too, Charlie. But it’s going to be just fine.
