This week we're recording on the road from Oklahoma City, so the new episode won't be out until a little later than usual.  But to tide you over, we have some not-quite-porn done badly.

I'm rock hard waiting for gnd 3

Kurt Montandon

I'm so, so sorry for what you guys have to watch for our entertainment ... but I'm also entertained.

this fish flies

He does but the house, but in the third movie. But because the original fanfic sequel was too long, to turn it into 3 books/movies el james just split it in two near the middle.

I'm glad that Eli was here to talk about the kinky sex stuff. Though it did confuse me when he was like "kink people don't like inflicting pain" because that's part of the "S" in "BDSM", sadism. I'm guessing contextually that he was referring to non-consensual pain? 'Cause if you're into receiving pain, someone's gotta dole it out, and why not make everyone happy?

Ellie Bartlett

Have they done the first one? I do not remember.

Meghan Ruth

He's talked about consensual pain in the past (I think it was on a Scathing or Scathing Patreon ep? Or maybe his blog. I have the memory of a cucumber.) and why he doesn't always clarify everything when he's talking to a broader audience. I think he assumed we knew what he was talking about.

Atheistic Snail

So somehow I'm completely unsurprised that a novel inspried by a crappy fantasy trilogy written by a repressed morman somehow isn't sexy and fails to understand consent and kinks.

Taru Tikkanen

I can now say, with confidence, that I voted for the right film on the poll. Thank you

Luke Rezin

Have you heard about 'Surfer: Teen Confronts Fear'? People are saying it's the Christian equivalent to 'the Room'.

Nolan Tenholder

Is that a Christian movie? It seemed like a boring surfer movie to me.

Leslie Marchant

Lifetime...for women...NOW with an adult rating (boobies).

GREGZILLA

This summer see........."50 Shades of Greybush: Retirement Home Rape Dungeon" This time, Grandma's gonna get it...

My last name managed to offend even Tom!

"Steele" seems to be a popular last name in fiction. They talked about the female lead being named "Anastasia Steele", and a character named "Rayford Steele" from the Left Behind movies. I know of a uh, certain kind of webcomic site that has a female character also with the last name of Steele, but that's as far as I'm going with that.

Dan Irizarry

I assume by goji balls Eli means Ben Wa Balls

Carbon

Can we make this? I think the atheist community needs to put out more comedy movies and it'd be fun as shit

Michelle C

Good to know this movie was every bit as obnoxious as it seemed from the previews.

David S.

I wish you guys would do the Twilight movies, find the source of this cancer.

Yes Honeybuns

This was a beautiful episode. I choked and almost died while listening at lunch. Well done fellas!

jessica

just remember the lady who wrote these books is Mormon.

Roger H.

He meant Godzilla's testicles.

Roger H.

You're thinking of the original Twilight novels.

You got the touch, You got the power

HUNTER: Oh! That poor woman has the saddest tits. Damned depressing. BROCK: Right! Yeah, they’re like The Notebook sad. HUNTER: Her tits are like coming home from school and finding out your old man ran over your cat sad. BROCK: Mournful. She has mournful tits. They’re like two suicide notes stuffed in a glitter bra. HUNTER: Those things are like a little kid with progeria cracking all his ribs trying to catch a Nerf ball. Just sad. Damnit she has gloomy tits! BROCK: It’s like she put a dollars worth of change into some old socks and then taped ‘em to her chest! HUNTER: I wanna build two little caskets and give her tits a tasteful, dignified funeral.

At one point in this podcast, Eli asks: who is this for? It's not for women, right? Now, I don't know how facetious he's being, but I can tell you that it is, in fact, women. My brother happens to be one of the top erotic fiction writers on Amazon and he writes whatever happens to be popular. Because of this, he has written a whole bunch of weird stuff, but there was a point where he was writing nothing but "Lesbian Forced Submision." Now, if you don't know what that is—which, okay, understandable—it's essentially rape porn, but the person being raped is into it by the end. Since straight-up rape erotica is not allowed on Amazon, this is about as close as you can get without getting your work pulled. While that may seem strange to most people reading this, it was explosively popular last year and he made a lot of money writing it. And the stereotype holds because it is almost exclusively women buying his work. In fact, it is almost exclusively women writing this stuff as well. He's just the odd one out.

Ryan Parker

Meadhands, I was coming to post an answer to the exact same question. And yes! This movie is absolutely for women. I have not seen this movie. And, while I started to explain myself, I soon realized that this is NOT going to translate very well via post on Patreon, and decided I should keep my explanation to myself. But, trust me. This is most definitely woman porn.

Markus D

I find Amazon not allowing "rape erotica" to be slightly weird if it has the caveat of "the victim is into it by the end". At that point, what's the problem with selling OTHER rape fantasy stuff, since I assume that the presumed "issue" would be "encouraging rape", but if the fantasy STARTS out as rape that doesn't really make a difference.

Markus D

He says weird stuff like that sometimes, but I don't know where he got "goji" from. I keep forgetting to tell him that he keeps saying "Andy Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's". That was MICKEY Rooney, man! Andy Rooney was a journalist!

Billy Morley

this was my first patron only episode and i wish i'd have started sooner

Ugly German Truths

Is there a possibility that both the books and the movies are based on a bet to make a book&movie series more ´horrible, mistaken in its premises and awful than "Left behind"? You know two Media type dudes talking and one dropping a line like "nothing could be worse than Left behind" and the other guy saying "you think so? Hold my beer! I have gotten that outline by a woman who thinks she can write Twilight fanfiction and you will EAT YOUR WORDS!"

Angela Earle

“I have a memory of a cucumber,” the Eli Bosnick story . . .

Lucy Beauclair

Now that you’ve done this, I need a bonus episode of 365 days with guest Cara Santa Maria 🙏🏻

Kristina Nylund

As someone who has been in the BDSM scene in a healthy way, these books are fiction meant to give the thrill to people who actually won't get into the scene. And it's ridiculous and horrible and damaging.
