I was always told the urban legend with the sister missionaries is about the 3 immortal Nephites from the Book of Mormon. I heard very similar stories growing up, with the premise of 3 big dudes protecting missionaries and then disappearing mysteriously.

Yeah, growing up I heard those urban legends as well. I'm surprised I never asked myself why Joseph Smith was needed when we had 3 immortal Nephites walking around, complete with priesthood power. How could there ever be an apostasy?

If it helps, when the main character looks over and sees a random guy crying in the waiting area, I believe the crying guy is reading a truly appalling piece of Mormon trash called Charly by Jack Wayland. It’s a tear-jerker that was making the rounds when I was young, and I think it was also made into a movie, if you’re looking for something for the next Mormon Movie Month! <hint hint=""></hint>
