I'll be the one: "cram school" is a category. Cram school is a thing in Japan. It's basically like school after school along the lines of intensive group tutoring. In Japan you have to test into good high schools and good universities, and given the pressure to achieve as well as the shame of failure, cram schools are a way to bolster chances of passing the exam into one's preferred school. The "genius school" in the movie is masquerading as a woo based cram school.

I love these terrible, terrible movies. I've spoken to a couple of the voice actors involved and they were like, "that was indeed a thing." Also, as a voice actor, I have to nitpick a bit: most of the bigger projects I get are sent under a fake name, and I've never gotten a script in advance. You get a character image and a quick synopsis of age and personality, and you get sections of the script with your lines the day of. It may be different if you're one of the leads, but that's been my experience in anime and game recording and auditions.

From a guy that loves anime, I have to say it was a ton of fun listening to you try to figure out what was the anime culture stuff in it and the cult stuff. I would probably not guess it was a cult thing just a weird thing I didn’t quite get.

I forget who said it, but on one of their previous Happy Science episodes one of the guests described it as "medium crazy for an anime but as a religion", and i think that sums it up pretty well.

Am I crazy or the plot point of a crazy alien / demon brainwashing kids via cram school is exactly the same plot as an episode of sailor moon crystal ? I mean that's the exact plot for the episode they introduced Sailor Mercury

No, you're totally right. It was originally in the manga which ran in the '90s too, so I wouldn't be surprised if the cult literally stole the plot.
