This week we're joined by the Scibabe and you actually get to hear it! Plus we yell at baby-murdering pieces of shit.

I knew it was eventually coming. I have been waiting for it since Eli joined and I heard about this fucking atrocious abomination. Can't wait!!!

Jen B.

I'm on the autism spectrum, and Andy Wakefield is an absolute fucking pariah in our community. He's done so much damage with his quackery, both physically and psychologically. Fuck. Him.

Breeding McNery

Is this the movie Robert Deniro wanted to show at some film festival this year?

Breeding McNery

Sounds like it's a good thing sensible people got so upset he changed his mind then.

Daniel the-vegetarian-blacksmith Sullivan

As the parent of a child with autism I have been waiting for this one. But I will wait until tomorrow to listen because I will just get too angry to sleep!

Jeaneene

Our first child care provider was very tough on vaccines required to bring your baby into her house. Her comment to me was, "anyone who is against vaccines has never watched a baby die of whooping cough." I couldn't agree more. I live amongst a lot of anti-vaxxers, and we know a several parents who are "choosing / chose not to vaccinate" yet they have their sons' dicks chopped up at birth! I don't fucking get it. And they are smart people for the most part. Makes me into a crazy person who nobody wants at parties.

DiddlingQuokka

This was like a two hour vulgarity for charity dedicated to just Wakefield and antivaxxers, and it STILL feels like you went easy on the fuckers.

Autistic Listeners Unite Individually! Fuck you Snakefield! I hope you choke to death on a steaming pile of santorum.

Beth Swope

Thank you for enduring this movie. i was diagnosed on the spectrum last year at the young age of 43. Lucky my parents just accepted all of my differences as special oddities. I do also know many atheists who are on the spectrum. one of the differences i have is not understanding sarcasm from people i don't know personally. this has developed into really good bullshit radar. i research anything i'm told to avoid being taken advantage of and religious dogma never passed the bs test. love you guys

Harley

Don't like the sound of de-platforming, still.

Breeding McNery

It's not to stop speech though. it's stopping the spread of provably false information that could result in the deaths of children and elderly who have no choice in the matter.

Sara Chandler

I'm surprised you didn't bring up how the idea that autistics are broken is directly related to our deaths at the hands of our caregivers being seen as "mercy killings" and thus the perpetrators rarely get prosecuted, even if it's a barbaric and torturous murder.

AK

I thank you for your service

I loved this episode and agree with your sentiments about vaccines being good. But I've got to say I winced when I heard your intro clips and when I actually got to the part where Eli started shitting on nurses; that the nurse in the movie was no doctor, went to night school, and is only a step above pharmacists. 1) There are different types of nurses, but some go to as much education as a doctor and can even have a doctorate of nursing. My wife has a BSN, which took her five years to get from an accredited university. 2) Pharmacists are doctors and are generally considered to have more education than nurses, so you're wrong again. If you had said that the lady was a nurse and no doctor, I'd be okay. But to impugn both nurses and pharmacists in general seemed unfair.

Sarah Fullerton

I'm impressed Eli pronounced Scibabe. I keep reading it as scrib-ab-ee, like some sort of scribe....

Meadhands

Where are the show notes for this movie?

Patrick Fussell

Yeah, my sister and her friends are pharmacists and all have a doctorate degree in pharmacy, which is a chemistry/medical postgrad degree from what it sounds like. Eli often cuts himself off though, so i figured he meant pharmacy techs though. Still harsh :p

Jen B.

Excellent point. We're seen as "broken victims," not human beings, which kills self-esteem.

Jen B.

Eli was REALLY turned loose on this episode, and for all the right reasons, I think. Yes, he was definitely harsh on this nurse, but taken in context of this doc, his ranting was justified.

My grandma was pregnant with my aunt and contracted rubella. My aunt was born with deafness, blindness, and intellectual impairment. She was institutionalized her whole life.
