This month, our secular bonus episodes circle back to where they all began: Batman movies. Specifically, Val Kilmer's "Batman on sedatives" performance of 1995.

Sidewinder

Never watched this one but I love Val Kilmer. I'm sure you all roasted him into the dirt, lol.

Bobby Tropicana

I remember hating this movie so much that when B&R came out, I actually didn't think it was as bad by comparison. Idk HOW I came to that conclusion, but there it is.

Vincent Jorgensen

I apologetically love this movie. I can't wait for the roast!

Matt Eldritch

I wish you covered more CBM material, but I love it when you do.

Vincent Jorgensen

The Blast Zone Podcast covered it. This is going to be better, tho.

Nolan B.

Thank you for this! The 90’s classics I loved as a kid are so good to hear a hilarious review of.

Markus D

I don't remember Two-Face being a Klingon.

Oke518

Is it just me or do these seem to cut off weird at the end like mid sentence or mid add

Jason the Beav

1. Veggie straws are great. 2. Battleship would be great! I won’t watch it but would love to your a review

Danial Gibson

Super hero with a supportive family? That's the third Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes.

Uriah Jackson

Most people focus on Val Kilmer replacing Michael Keaton, but there's another notable recasting: Tommy Lee Jones is replacing Billy Dee Williams (who played Harvey Dent in the Burton movies).

El Oso Café

Heath is wrong. GEE-ger is the correct pronunciation.

Markus D

It does. I feel like another recent episode also did but I'd have to go back through them.

Oke518

It's been happening to me for quite a while I've just been ignoring it because it was most of the ads but this time it cut off Noah so it was worth bringing up :3

Starshark

I thought boiling acid was more reactive (don't yell at me, I failed high school chemistry), but when I looked it up, I couldn't find anything. What I DID find was that acid "boils" (bubbles vigorously) when it's more reactive, so the boiling could be all the metal and shit getting fucked up. Anyway, I wanted to be a pedant, so there it is. Hang on, someone at the door. You're who? The Pedant-Eating Monster? What the hell is- AIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Starshark

Oh, and please don't take this to mean I'm defending this garbage movie in any way. I took my then-girlfriend to see it when it hit the cinemas, and I had to do a lot of apologising to ensure I'd get to marry her twenty years later.

Vincent Jorgensen

Same, but for Batman and Robin. Groveling goes far, but it's hard to make up for a baaaad movie.

Vincent Jorgensen

I can't see BDW doing this roll. He's jucking Lando! He probably noped out just like Keaton.

Uriah Jackson

What I read suggested that there was a plan to have the attack that changed him happen in Batman Returns, but since it didn't end up making it into the final screenplay they didn't get Billy Dee to come back, and so they decided to go with someone else in Forever.

Uriah Jackson

I listen through Google podcast, and wasn't getting any random cutoffs, but it did seem to get quieter just before the hour mark.

Uriah Jackson

It would be appropriate if they announced a review of it, but didn't release the review until sometime in the next couple years.

Jason the Beav

Holy hell the reference to their old employer send me down a very happy YouTube rabbit hole

James Robbins

Since the "chair" rushes you down and also dresses you as Batman, during the skit when they kept saying chair and activating it over and over I was imaging an endless amount of Batman suits being expended with no one in the chair.

Markus Nävergård

they so wanted two face to be the Joker in this, because that is how they make Tommy Lee Jones play him

Peter Kyrouac

Batman Returns from 1992 is my favourite old Batman movie from the 90s and probably my fav comic book film of all time. It's so absurdly campy and I love it. I'll be happy if GAM ever does Batman Returns.

Daniel Mancini

From what I remember, BDW was actually very disappointed to not play two face and that he accepted the role to begin with because he wanted to do that role. Fortunately, they got him to voice Two Face in the Lego Batman movie.

Daniel Mancini

I feel that they are both terrible movies, but I enjoy watching B & R because it is so over the top insane and weird. To me, this movie is the boring kind of bad instead of the fun kind of bad.

Liam Greenwald

I've had that happen to all of mine lately. But I've also lost the ability to download off of Patreon, so I wonder if there was an update and it's an issue with the Patreon player?

KRiS

I had this movie memorized as a teen, particularly Tommy Lee Jones' monologue. Whenever I'm making myself a cheap meal I'm reminded of the "Well, in your case, beer and pizza" line. This movie introduced me to a better version of Jim Carrey, too. I didn't like the Ace Ventura movies all that much. Entertaining but definitely geared toward the teenage boy crowd. "And what a grand pursuit you must be" gets me every time. I unapologetically still like this campy movie. It's the best kind of campy.

Someday Sera

I think this is the second pg13 movie I ever saw in theaters...even then I remember it being kind of a train wreck, but most super hero movies were in the 90's And the batman forever snes game...my god, describing it as barely functional is generous. It's right up there with superman 64

The DinosaurDave

But they randomly put bits of the review in other dv reviews for no reason

Markus D

Damn, that sucks. Do you think it might've been a racism thing? I think what Vincent Jorgensen said there is kind of funny because while I doubt Billy Dee Williams hated being Lando, he probably didn't want to be typecast into only having that sort of role.

Markus D

Yeah, I just listened to it again on Podcast Addict and it does not cut off, so it seems to be a Patreon thing.

CarrieBoo

Eli's Tim Burton made me cry laughing. I need more Eli Tim Burton.

Eric Esders

Two-Face is never at odds with his coin. He's at odds with himself. Hence the coin. Harvey is constantly at odds with his alter ego (Bad Harvey). Maybe Harvey wants to spare a person while BH wants to kill them. Or Harvey wants to kill them quick while BH wants to kill them slow. But both sides fully respect the flip of the coin. He never gets pissy with the result. And neither personality are idiots who flip over the things Jones did. This is just Schumacher not caring about the source material. They're just cartoons to him.

Jesse Marshall

I still have a sealed Batman Forever Pog collector set I bought at a blockbuster lol.

Patrick Carr

Nicole Kidman was and is GORGEOUS.

3rd Amendment Truther

I'd like to nominate SpaceCamp (1986) for the next secular GAM. About a bunch of kids that go into space accidentally because of a problem with the space shuttle. Coincidentally released just a few months after the Challenger accident. 😬

Someday Sera

one of the more insane skits they've ever done, fantastic work

Markus D

Batman doesn't kill people in the same way that people doing pacifist runs of Dark Souls "don't kill people".

Mark Warren

I know I am super behind, but I can’t believe Eli didn’t say anything about Noah’s slip up when he says “My butt fucking backup cam” at about 1 hour and 4 minutes

Markus Nävergård

man, cant belive this is a year old, feels like it was uploaded last month.

Joseph Michell

I saw this in theaters, had the VHS and I am today right years old when I realized what Nicole Kidmans name meant.

Winter

I heard an interview with Val Kilmer around the time this movie came out saying the batsuit was like suddenly being very old - it hurt to move, he needed other people’s help to pee, and would just fall over randomly …

Chonkerooni

Late to the party, and I can't recall if they addressed it in the movie, but Two-Face has a specific two-headed coin that's scratched up on one side. That's why it would work when Bats throws the handful of coins.
