I thought the next one was the happy science cult? :O

Anne the transwoman

Holy shit, did I watch a fucking happy science anime movie for nothing? I'm not mad, just confused.

Claus Hinze

Same. Fiancee and I actually enjoyed it, so it wasn't too horrible a time.

GodAwful

Were doing "the rebirth of bhudda" next week ;)

Is Matt Dillahunty actually in this movie!?!? Or does the announcer just look exactly like him?

Gmork

In fairness, the porn ripoff Fucking Chance was just as predictable.

Anne the transwoman

OH good, good, this movie has ... issues. The buddha one I mean.

tsukiouji

Y'all are edging us now XD That movie was so boring, can't wait to hear what the guys thought of it

You know I love you guys, but I'm really hoping you're only keeping Draft Kings ads because you signed a contract. They're a really predatory business.

Listening to the episode right now, just at the 30 minute mark. I got a bit of a chuckle from Noah saying "If your strategy is to tire your opponent out while he repeatedly punches you in the head, that's not much tit for his tat." And this is absolutely true and I'm not here to be pedantic, but that was basically the strategy of MMA fighter Kazuyuki "Iron Head" Fujita. At one point he fought Mark Kerr and Kerr threw a punch so strong against Fujita his own muscle in his arm snapped and hit his heart like a damn rubber-band, forcing him to exit the fight for health concerns! Fujita literally won a fight by taking a punch to the face so strong it nearly lead to a heart attack in the gut delivering that punch. What I'm saying is that if Fighting Chance were a loosely inspired story about Fujita after being pressed and folded through some Christian Movie Script Doctor like a pasta machine, this would be my favourite movie ever.

My husband checked the IMDB page for the movie. Thom L. Price played the ring announcer, and he does resemble Matt Dillahunty!

Jesse Ozog

But what are the chances that would be his name?

Denise Huston

The domme porn spinoff No Fucking Chance had some surprising twists though.

Bob Brady

There is a none-zero number of this audience that has no idea who Raiden is and I'd pay a pretty penny to know what they pictured when Heath referenced him. 😂👺🤸

Eli, there's only one season of Firefly. And a movie. And comic books. And 8 novels....

I mean this genuinely and I'm not trying to be argumentative, but how is a paid ad for DraftKings any different or more harmful than plugging Fancy-Brand Tequila every other episode?

That's a fair question. To me, the difference is that Sparkle Donkey is not specifically marketing to alcoholics, while online sports betting is set up specifically to draw in problem gamblers and increase problem gambling. They use a range of psychological tricks to make their site more addictive. If Sparkle Donkey advertised at AA meetings or gave out coupons in the detox ward, I'd have a problem with that too. Now, as as pointed out on Scathing this week, they also have some policies in place to reduce problem gambling, though those were implemented after public outcry and are sometimes just following laws, so I don't want to give them too much credit. (I'm pretty sure providing the problem gambling hotlines is legally mandated, for example.) I don't have the data yet to say whether those steps are really making a difference or whether they're whitewashing the problem. I'm looking into the research right now. It's not my specific subfield, so it might take me a little while. That said, I just found a study that said about 14% of users are problem gamblers, but those users make up half online sports betting revenue. That suggests that Draft Kings can't possibly be fighting gambling addiction all that hard. My guess is they're taking the smallest possible steps that mollify the public while still allowing as much problem gambling as possible, because I just don't see them executing a plan that would cost them half their revenue.

Dont deny it Noah. Making fun of babies makes us *all* happy.

Gray Imaginings

As someone who is a fan of combat sports, and went to an MMA gym for almost 10 years, the description of the fights made them sound abysmal. This truly was a "So I don't have to".

The funniest suicide attempt I've ever seen is from the 2000-something movie "Cyberbully" where the attempt is literally foiled because the girl can't get the cap off of some pills and THEY DIDN'T WRITE SOMETHING NOT STUPID INSTEAD.
