OK, this is going to be horribly pedantic but wouldn't he need to fill out a W4? W2's you get from your employer, while W4's you fill out with your withholding info, etc :)

At the risk of sounding argumentative... I think I had it right. An employer gives a blank W-2 to an independent contractor (if the employer is going to be paying that person more than $600 during the tax year). That contractor has to fill it out and return it so the employer can submit a 1099 to the worker during tax time. Since the evil cloud spirit was just conjured, we can assume it's an independent contractor and not a formally hired employee. :)

You may be right but I've never filled out a W2 as an independent contractor to some publishers. Still a funny comic and I'm just being a pain in the ass because.... yeah I'm just that.

Truthfully? He's kind of a throw-away character that made the joke work. But this is Evil Inc. He could always appear (well, in his case, disappear) at any time in the future!
