This episode did a really good job at establishing Ra's al Ghul as a formidable enemy. He easily won the fight with Oliver and he even chose to start with no weapons! For a bit of context, the Arrowverse show usually have a break in December/January, usually after episode 9, and like to leave off on a cliffhanger. So usually the last episode before the break is known as the midseason finale and leaves off on a cliffhanger. The midseason finale in season 1 was Oliver's first confrontation with Malcolm where Malcolm beats Oliver and in season 2 it was the episode where Slade was revealed to be alive in the present.
