The 1980s produced a lot of great movies in the science fiction/fantasy/action genre. Films like Jaws along with the Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Back to the Future trilogies really set the standard for what we now call the "summer blockbuster". Oft imitated but never improved. You really should check out the original Star Wars trilogy (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) as well as the Indiana Jones trilogy (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade). Based on your reaction to this trilogy, I think you would love those. There are other films and film series from the time period that are certainly worth a viewing, but Star Wars and Indiana Jones influenced so much that came after them.
