Phone books were pretty much what the internet is now like you just look up someones name and find out all there stuff. But yea what a classic movie I loved how they mainly used practical effects from the sets, make up and action some movies today use too much CGI but I just love a good practical movie. And the movie doesn't really have a happy ending yea Sara lived but the future didn't change, and what a crazy twist Kyle being the dad lol so the son John must've known he had to send Kyle back for him to be born that's crazy time travel is so weird

The Terminator was a combination of stop-motion animation, puppetry, and Arnold of course. This movie is a science-fiction classic, but it's overshadowed by the second movie, which is widely considered among the best sequels ever made as well as one of the greatest action movies ever made. Strangely enough, it was the villain of the movie - Arnold Schwarzenegger - that would become a superstar in the wake of this movie's success. This movie would spawn a million clones, despite it being a clone itself in many ways of the slasher horror genre that was so popular at the time. The background of the final shot that your sister was so interested in was a matte painting, which is just a painted representation of an environment. This was a cost-cutting special effects tool used for many decades in the movie industry when it was too impractical to film in a location. Personally, I love matte paintings because, once again, it's a special effects tool that comes from the hands of a living person. I don't find it anymore distracting than most digital landscapes.
