OMG, THE MATRIX!!! 🤯 We were SO excited to finally watch this movie, especially after loving the John Wick franchise and getting to see Keanu Reeves again!

And the best part? We went into this COMPLETELY BLIND. We knew basically nothing about the story, so discovering the plot, the world, and all the twists along the way was such an amazing experience. The story was SO GOOD, and those action scenes?! Absolutely INSANE! 🔥

We especially loved Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity. They were all such iconic characters, and the chemistry between them made the movie even better.

But honestly, all the stuff about AI, technology, and what the future could look like for humanity made us a little scared too. 😅 Some of the ideas in this movie feel WAY too relevant today, which made watching it even more fascinating (and terrifying)!

The Matrix was such an incredible experience, and we’re SO glad we finally watched it! ❤️

It's funny how you thought Keanu was so young here, because when this movie came out, I actually thought he was starting to get pretty old. He's been around since the mid 1980's and I'd already seen him in the Bill & Ted movies, Point Break, Dracula, Speed, etc... by the time The Matrix released he was already well established and his career was getting on in years... yet he stuck around!

I think people are beginning to realize how dangerous AI really is. It's entered every aspect of our lives and it's so insidiously handy. The billionaires who only see the profit in it are not putting in the proper safeguards and AI has no inborn morality. It's already been shown what AIs do when they 'jailbreak'. Just ask any of the big AIs about how AIs can break security protocols without any human input. Just remember when you ask an AI a question, you become part of it's training.

This was a great reaction. Imagine seeing this in theaters in 1999. It was wild. We had never seen anything like it. To address Rachel's fears about AI. Well... AI only processes what we know, so theoretically it could be possible for AI to choose the template of The Matrix or Terminator. What I mean by AI can't collect or process what we don't know is because AI has no intuition. AI actually doesn't "create" anything. AI cannot comprehend subjective experience. Which is vital to actual creation. Until we understand fully how the human brain works, AI will always be a cheap imitation. But it could still wipe out humanity lol While typing this out I asked AI "could humans be used like batteries like in the matrix" It basically said no because the cost would out weigh the energy produced. So maybe we don't have to worry about a Matrix future. Terminator it is I guess.

Between this & Person of Interest it’s crazy how more relevant it all is now so scary ! There’s so many little details in this movie it’s worth a rewatch. The room that Trinity is in at the start of the film is 303 the same room that Neo is trying to get to escape at the end of the movie. Since the Oracle is a program and she gave Neo a cookie, like anytime he comes back she'll remember him I don't know why I didn't realize that dialgoue exchange lol as being "oh this makes so much sense" Agent Smith you see him becoming more and more angry as he interrogates Morpheus, which is such a human emotion while Neo is more robotic like he’s not expressing emotions much as the movie goes on. Neo’s name is just One switched around . It’s crazy & the Oracle was right the whole time when she said Neo wasn’t the one that was true cause he only became the One at the end of the film.

There are plenty of misconceptions about AI as well. It's understandable how it's become confusing, because AI is also powering the fear-mongering surrounding AI. The social media campaigns about how dangerous AI is are actually also often powered by AI, because of how outrage and sensationalism creates profits. Some of the videos on social media from AI experts "ringing the alarm" are also for two not so honest reasons: 1) Big AI corporations are fighting between who can decide about what guardrails are put in place, so it's about scaring people so people would give some of these experts control over what all of the other AI corporations are allowed to do. People who don't have deep AI knowledge are incapable of enforcing rules and big AI corporations see the ability of controlling what other AI companies can do as the ultimate power. 2) Social media recommendation algorithms (which are pretty much AI algorithms themselves) see profit and value in spreading fear and outrage about AI. It's a complex and nuanced topic, and often it's good to try to keep a level head. In many ways the place where we are with AI is exaggerated. We can have AI do and pretend to do some things, but one thing that seems very hard for a non-biological "entity" to learn is self-preservation. It seems the need for self-preservation and "spreading your genes" is a very biological thing, and it's difficult for something digital to learn it. In short: humans generally have to really force AI software to care about "being alive". Software can't just easily learn to care about "being alive" , and staying alive. The dangers of becoming too dependent are obviously there as with other technologies, and there are great dangers involved with what humans can do with AI technology, but a sentient AI that really wants to stay alive is still quite deeply in the world of fantasy.
