John was working for the CIA I think that's what you meant to say, HR is strictly just New York based corrupt cops. Love how there doing these flashbacks it is interesting the CIA was trying to get The Machine and they were pining both John and the woman against each other. I do wonder why they were looking for it cause remember Finch said the government already gets the relevant numbers and Finch is just hacking in through a backdoor to get the irrelevant list of numbers to use.

The mysterious laptop containing the machine source code and how it winded up in the hands of the Chinese is a huge plot point in the upcoming seasons. All I'm gonna say is, the payoff is gonna be Great.
