Lmaoo so I love that I just woke up and 15mins later it’s a upload 😂😁 and I’m commenting way too early in the vid But I looked it up and in the states at least it’s 400-1600pts passing, with each section being 200-800 points I didn’t ever take the SATs so I wonder what I would have gotten 😅 did you guys have to take them? Edit: so I finished the ep and Spike is hilarious 😂 I love his shenanigans and his love “monologue”. I feel so heartbroken for oz and cordy, definitely not my favorite part of the ep lol Poor Buffy getting talk jumped every chance they get about college, like I know y’all excited! But staaahhhppp she gotta breathe for a few days lol Yo cordy got traumatized that her bf was kidnapped, witnessed herself get cheated on and got impaled by rebar — what a day 😂

Yeah, I think the score has always been 1600 total (IIRC it's 800 each for math/logic and verbal/language). Buffy has 1430 out of 1600 which is pretty decent. Willow complains that she got a 740/800 on the verbal and Xander complains that her verbal only score is a bit like his overall score out of 1600 hence village idiot.

And like, I believe the point of the SATs is that it's the same standardized test across high schools in America so when you apply to college you submit what you got in your SATs which measures up against others as a level playing field, compared to being your class' valedectorian or grades, which can vary depending on your school.

This is truly the saddest episode. Cordy was literally growing as a person and did so much to meet Xander halfway (notice she's no longer hanging with her mean girl friends either) and Oz was always an A+ boyfriend to Willow and they both got hurt and honestly Willow and Xander deserve to be shut out for a while because they fucked up repeatedly and really badly and consequences are important.

I do have to give Spike points for blowing into town, messing up not one but three romances (counting Buffy and Angels totally not a romance) and then blowing back out of town deciding that violence is better than love hahaha

Sam has mentioned before that he left school early but he's in Sydney so their system is unique to the Aus state of New South Wales, however the nationwide university entrance score is called ATAR - Australian Tertiary Admittance Rank. It's not its own test, it's like a conversion of our grades during our final year or two of secondary I think. No idea what the school system was like in Ukraine for Maria.

We have a similar but different kind of standardised testing. Upon finishing high school we take up to four tests. Three (Ukrainian language, math and history) is a requirement, but you can take four. Ukrainian literature, English/German/Spanish/French language, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, and Physics are the subjects to choose from. The fourth is usually whichever one works best for your uni (college) application. For example, I was applying for translation/journalism/editing and publishing/English language and lit possible majors (it works differently, I can share how in a separate message as this one's already going to be long). It was also a bit different when I took mine 11 years ago - Ukrainian language and literature were combined and it was the only requirement. I chose English, history and world lit as the other three - Maria

When Charisma Carpenter was a child, her parents were putting in a pool in the backyard. She accidentally fell and was impaled on a rebar. She has a scar in that same place.

Krystina Ward

I feel like Faith loves being a slayer. She loves killing vampires. I think everyone knows this and assumes she would be ok with being the hellmouth slayer

Rei Alexandra

Yeah, this whole storyline is tough to watch every time. The next episode is a fav though.

SAT’s work on a range the total at the time could only be 1600 now i believe its 2200 because there’s an essay But even at 1600 you can retake particular sections over again to get higher so Willow was referring to her english section being “ low” at a 790

John Campbell

I am again having issues. I got the sound playing, but the picture is the thumbnail. It is angering me. It is not your fault. Other than I think 2016-2021, the SATS are two parts, English and Math with a total of 800 in each. I got a 1210. I think it was a 590 and a 620. I can't remember which was which, but lean towards 590 math. Based on people in my class, and for some reason, I was largely in honors level classes. I had good numbers. So when Buffy, who far too often uses the wrong words in place of not exactly uncommon terms, got a 1430, I was not happy. I will write more if I can get Patreon to work on the damn TV. Trying again. The 7th? Nope. I'll have to watch on the phone. The comments have reminded me of what this episode is. At some point Nerf Herder re-recorded the theme song as initially the tempo was off and sped up. Faith is actually supposed to be her replacement. But because Buffy is supposed to be dead. Basically, Buffy is a bonus slayer. I think that it is messed up that the person who has to pay the most for Xander/Willow is Cordelia. I'm not a Taylor Swift fan, but if she was about a decade or so earlier, Cordy would end up blasting that "We are never, ever, ever getting back together" song. Of the two, I blame Xander more as Willow was constantly trying to find a way out. Xander would too often instigate contact or verbal flirting. She also had a decade of pent up longing. He's been into her for about a month. Spike and Joyce is always fun. Do links work in these comments?

I remember not having the best SAT scores but still able to get into very good universities but that might be because I had good grades and did activities also

Kathryn Cottam

It was interesting to watch you guys react to this episode, and actually watch it in full again, as I usually just skip past the whole episode when I’m doing a rewatch😂

I am no help with the SAT info because I took the ACT. It is the test more commonly taken in my area and almost all universities/colleges accept both tests. It is also scored differently - score range is 1-36. ACT has a science section and broader math section. ACT has an optional additional essay section. I very vaguely remember that SAT had something similar for a short time, but stopped a few years ago. I could be wrong about this though because I never paid that much attention to the news clips about them. I can't remember my composite ACT score from nearly 20 years ago, but all schools I have applied for have accepted me so it has never been an issue for me. However, a number of universities and colleges no longer require either test for admission.

Amongst my Buffy fan friends, I feel there is a split with people either really liking or really disliking this episode. I don't love everything in this episode, but feel like the good parts easily outweigh the bad parts.

Justyna Tenel

I'm here with you re feeling coughy. Have had a flu for 4ish days so I'll just listen to this while having a shuteye.

Justyna Tenel

I hate what happens with the couples, but Spike is a ray of wobbly drunken sunshine. Also the 'locked up in the factory ' bit lol

Justyna Tenel

Love's bitch speech is truly Spike laying down some hard truths there.

We need more commentary on the outfits!

Yeah, I really wasn't expecting it to get this far with them so that was pretty disappointing from a "love of the character" perspective. I guess i get it as a writing choice tho - Sam

The Buff Summer
>>137146381

Seriously? So they used her childhood as inspiration for the writing of this episode + to take advantage of her already existing scar? That's pretty interesting - Sam

The Buff Summer
>>137146665

I mean, sure, but assuming that she loves it doesn't make it cool to just decide that she should absorb all the risk so that Buffy can just go live her life - Sam

The Buff Summer
>>137175561

Is it the video host that Patreon uses (vimeo) that is the problem? If so, we're going to be hosting everything we post through streamable as it seems to be working better. Thanks for the SAT info. Buff using the wrong words and still getting a higher score than you is pretty funny. Great example of shows just telling us the characters are smarter and more capable than they know how to show. Oh, so the song actually IS sped up? Fair enough, it did sound a little bit faster. Sure, faith is supposed to be her replacement, but it didn't work out that way. As far as I'm concerned, they're either both on the hook, or they're both not. True. I think it's particularly rough for Cordy in this case. Lol, that makes sense, she probably would blast Talyor. Yeah, more or less agree. In this case, Xander deserves a slightly larger slice of blame pie. No doubt. Yeah, they are fun 👌 Idk about links, probably? I guess just try and we'll find out - Sam

The Buff Summer
>>137200977

Also could depend on what you decided to study and what having a "best SAT score" means to you. You ever hear the term "P's get degrees"? - Sam

Krystina Ward
>>137146665

I agree completely. Just giving you a reason for why they would assume Buffy could go live her life while Faith stayed in Sunnydale.

The Buff Summer
>>137120113

Nikki, that's a morning surprise 😄 Guess you already know about our SAT situation. Yes, Spike is the highlight of this episode. Granted, it's still hard to get through. I always hope for a different outcome 😩 - Maria

The Buff Summer
>>137291370

I wish I could say the same. I like Spike's story in this one, and Buffy & Angel's involvement, but it really doesn't outweigh the heaviness of X and W's mess - Maria

The Buff Summer
>>137504714

Style is something I'm invested in and Sam's having a blast commenting on it, so it'll always be a part of our conversation 😋 - Maria

John Campbell

The stream are link seemed to work fine for me. The Patreon app on my phone worked fine with Vimeo, but not the home system. It just unnecessarily stretches credulity. The two people without blame and Cordy and Oz. Nerf Herder re-recorded to song for Season 3. I looked it up.

This didn't post where I expected it to go. Buffy S1 gag reel: https://youtu.be/wPLBhhid2Dc?si=lVTkeVgCcTwhOl81 Buffy S2 gag reel: https://youtu.be/AiWGT90EFT4?si=KP3pXEfJhSanrBbR Buffy S3 gag reel: https://youtu.be/3xliPCpMzCs?si=jI6XEjZ-SkpsG-ri I don't know if the quality is reaction quality, but I'd get a kick out of watching you watch them, if you haven't already. Obviously, S3 will have to wait. By the time you get to S4 I'll have the rest that I have uploaded. I only have Buffy 1-5 and Angel 1-3.

>>137120213

No it hasn't always been 1600. At the time of the show it was 1600. In 2006 it switched to a 2400 pt system, and then back to 1600 in 2016. I took them in 2005 when it was still a 1600 pt system, but graduated in 2006. It was a lot of converting my scores for colleges. On the 1600 scale, I got a 1480.

The Buff Summer
>>137768741

That's good to hear 🙏 Do you mean in the Xander/Willow situation or the whole episode? Gotcha. It makes sense. I prefer the original, but I think this version makes sense for this season - Maria

The Buff Summer
>>137768741

The links are working, all good. Thanks! We haven't watched them yet, so that might be an idea. We'll keep you updated 👌😎 - Maria

John Campbell

I can no longer remember what stretched credulity. LOL The band and Joss were both unhappy thst the tempo sped up on the original when it wasn't supposed to. So, the new version us the "correct" version. Which is better is up to the individual. It's definitely different from most theme songs. Hopefully, the construction on the house I live in will begin and end soon so I can access my VCR and upload S4&5 (actually a 100th episode celebration) and Angel 1&2.

Since time got away from me, I’m having a binge watch. To add a bit of trivia, according to James Marsters, he burnt his hand quite badly while filming the scene where Spike is struck by sunlight while passed out drunk. But rather than go to the on-set medic, he pretended everything was fine and went to a hospital directly after the shooting wrapped.
