Before she was Shadowheart, she was a child with soft hands and brighter eyes—raised under a different sky, in a life now lost to memory. Her name, her parents, her laughter—it was all taken, wrapped in black silk and drowned in devotion.
They said it was an honor to forget.
Chosen by the Sharran clergy at a young age, she was reborn in a cloister of obsidian halls and candlelit rites. In the temple’s depths, she learned to pray not for joy, but for stillness. Pain became focus. Doubt, a weakness to be cleansed. Her beauty was polished to perfection—not for vanity, but for persuasion. For infiltration. For seduction, if the mission demanded it.
She wore mystery like a second skin, each movement deliberate, every glance edged with calculated warmth. Yet beneath the stoic surface, buried deep, there was something else. A flicker. A pulse. Something Shar hadn’t quite extinguished.
When she was granted the sacred artifact—a relic she did not understand but was sworn to protect—she accepted her duty without question. She was to deliver it to Baldur’s Gate under the cover of darkness. No distractions. No attachments.
But fate had its own design.
The nautiloid struck like a nightmare made flesh. Abducted. Infected. Thrown into a chaos she had never trained for. And then… companions. Strangers. Adventurers with questions and convictions and eyes that looked at her not as a tool, but as a woman.
She hated how it stirred something in her.
Each night at camp, she'd sit apart—gazing into the flames like they might burn the guilt from her skin. Yet when someone approached, when their voice softened just for her, when they dared to reach beneath the cold—
She didn’t pull away.
Shadowheart had learned to kill with a touch, to charm with a lie, to destroy with holy darkness. But now, here in the wild, she began to feel. A glance from Tav that lingered too long. The teasing tension with Lae’zel. A soft confession in the dark, a hand brushing hers when they thought she wouldn’t notice. She did.
And she wanted more.
Not just lust—though that came easily. But freedom. Identity. The right to want without punishment. To taste desire and call it her own.
Still, Shar whispered.
Every time she gave in—smiled too softly, stared too long, trembled when someone touched her cheek—guilt twisted like a blade in her chest. She was trained to be silent, shapeless, loyal. But the woman inside her—the one Shar tried to erase—was waking.
And that woman was dangerous.
Now she walks a path of dualities. Faith and doubt. Duty and temptation. Devotion and… freedom. She still wears black, still speaks in riddles, still carries death in her hands. But there are moments—private, fleeting—when her eyes soften, her voice warms, and she lets herself be.
Not a servant. Not a weapon.
But Shadowheart.
Whole. Wanting. Alive.
