In the grand halls of Arendelle, Anna was always expected to smile, to charm, to play the part of the dutiful princess. Rapunzel, visiting with her endless golden braid and easy laughter, was expected to do the same. Together they were meant to embody tradition — two princesses walking the line of grace and diplomacy.

But when the feasts were over and the halls emptied, neither of them cared about expectations.

It began with Anna noticing the way Rapunzel’s laughter lingered, softer when it was meant just for her. The way her fingers brushed against Anna’s wrist and stayed an instant too long. The way her violet eyes gleamed like they were keeping a secret. Anna wasn’t naïve — she knew what it meant to feel her stomach twist with anticipation every time Rapunzel leaned close. She just never thought she’d be brave enough to act on it.

Until Rapunzel acted first.

One night, lanterns flickered low in a quiet hallway, shadows spilling against the stone. Rapunzel’s hand slipped into Anna’s, pulling her away from the light. Their backs pressed to the wall, hidden just beyond the guards’ watch, Anna’s breath caught when Rapunzel whispered, “Do you ever wonder if we’re allowed to want more than what they tell us?”

Anna’s answer came not with words but with closeness — the kind that defied every expectation of courtly grace. The two of them standing too close, breathing the same air, trembling at the weight of something they weren’t supposed to feel.

Every stolen moment after that was charged. The secret smiles over banquet tables. The accidental touches in crowded rooms. The midnight escapes to the balcony, where Anna’s freckles glowed in the moonlight and Rapunzel’s hair caught the silver sheen of starlight.

They knew the risk. Princesses were meant for duty, not desire. Yet the pull between them was undeniable, dangerous in its sweetness. It was the thrill of being almost caught, the rush of whispered laughter in darkened corners, the fire of lips hovering close but not quite touching.

Desire past expectations. That was what bound them together — not rebellion for its own sake, but the realization that they had found in each other something too intoxicating to ignore.

And in the quiet of those nights, Anna understood: Rapunzel wasn’t just a guest, or a friend, or another royal to appease. She was temptation itself — and Anna had already surrendered.
