The crisp October afternoon was bright with the gold of falling leaves, casting a warm light over the paved school path. Katherine Pryde stood on the stones, enjoying the break from her classroom routine. She wore a white short-sleeved blouse and a red pleated skirt, her long brunette hair pulled into a high ponytail, as she looked out over the quiet campus woods.

Classes were over for the day, and the grounds provided a peaceful retreat. She looked up at her classmate walking beside her and smiled as she took his hand.

“It is a perfect afternoon to be outside,” he noted, looking around the clearing.

She smiled, releasing his hand and stepping forward with fluid grace. “Let’s see if you can keep up.” With a sudden laugh, she lightly tapped his shoulder and darted back into the trees.

He immediately gave chase, his boots crunching against the fallen foliage as he ran to tag her back. But Katherine had a distinct advantage. Every time he closed the distance, she activated her abilities, seamlessly phasing right through the massive oak trunks or allowing his outstretched hand to slip harmlessly through her shoulder like a ghost. She thoroughly enjoyed the playful test of her reflexes.

Realizing the pursuit could continue indefinitely, he stopped near a clearing, crossing his arms with a mock-defeated sigh. “Using phasing powers isn’t exactly standard fair play.”

Katherine paused a few yards away, her eyes bright with amusement. Deciding the game had run its course, she completely solidified her form. She walked back over, slowly swaying her hips until she was standing directly in front of him with a friendly smile.

“Alright, fair enough-” and that’s when he sprung his trap before she could finish, pulling her down into a pile of crunchy leaves making her squeak.

The leaves exploded into the air as they hit the pile, falling back down around them slowly as they shared a heated kiss. Breaking for air Katherine smirked, “Looks like you got me”. Her eyes sparkling with delight, he slid his hand up her bare thigh and she decided right then-she’d never been so happy to be Whole.
