Anna kept the costume on longer than the convention required.

The yellow crop top and the short denim shorts with the little suspenders had been for the day. The fit was tight enough that every step shifted the fabric against her skin. Once the crowds thinned and the autumn path outside the venue went quiet, she didn’t change. She stayed in the outfit and walked far enough that the noise of the event fell behind her.

Most days she still kept things light. Tonight the costume made it easier to loosen that. The shorts sat low. The crop left her midriff bare. She didn’t fix either when the breeze moved through the trees. She paused on the path, one hand lifting to her hair, and glanced back over her shoulder with a small smile. The suspenders tugged lightly against her shoulders. No one else was close enough to see.

She stayed longer than she planned. The outfit wasn’t special and the empty path wasn’t a stage. She just hadn’t decided she wanted to put her regular clothes back on yet. The denim stayed short. The yellow top stayed cropped. Every time she shifted her weight the fabric moved with her, and for now the cool air on her skin and the way the costume still fit were reason enough to keep walking in it a little longer.
