She reread the message on her phone over and over, fingers trembling as she lightly grasped the front of her down coat.

Beneath the thick fabric, the harness pressed against her skin—unlike mere clothing, it was something she had been made to wear. The delicate straps traced along her body, as if exposing a secret she had tried to ignore.
