Cecilia⁷

Joe Smith

TAWANDA! 📢 This movie is a 90’s classic!

Lavender Violet

I haven't even started the watch, but I have been waiting with bated breath ever since you announced it. I love this movie! It's in my top movies of all time list. Let's gooooo!

Pam R

Julian is Iggy's brother. He was at the beginning, the one that riled her up and stuck his tongue out at her.

Cecilia⁷

Fun fact: The Whistlestop Cafe is a real restaurant you can visit now in the exact building they filmed in. It's about 45 minutes from where I live!

Lauren D

Both Mary’s were my sexual awakening 😉

Hilary

In the book, it's not even a question if they are in love. You should definitely read it!

Lavender Violet

Yes! I was going to comment this. In the book, the townspeople even refer to Buddy Jr as Idgie and Ruth's boy.

Lavender Violet

Back again now that I've watched the reaction. I love this movie so much and I'm so glad you loved it too. For sure, you should read the book. A few fun facts: 1) Mary Stuart Masterson did the honey collecting stunt herself with real bees because her stunt double was too afraid to do it and quit right before filming the scene. 2) In the book, Idgie and Ruth's relationship is very clear. They are a couple. But early 90's Hollywood wouldn't let the movie be that explicit, so it was implied. 3) In the book, Mrs. Threadgoode is definitely NOT Idgie. I'm not sure why they chose to change that for the film. 4) The author of the book, Fannie Flagg, appeared as one of the leaders of Evelyn's marriage class. Since you loved this movie so much, I would highly recommend Steel Magnolias if you haven't seen it already. It's so good. I always think of these movies together for some reason. Dolly Parton, Sally Field, Julia Roberts.... you can't go wrong.

Pam Nail

I'm not sure why the movie seems to want us to think Mrs. Threadgoode is Idgy. She can't be. It doesn't make any sense. She says when she first meets Evelyn that she married Idgy's brother. And how did she get that honey in the last scene when she just came from the nursing home? I was pleased to see that Barbara Ling did the production design for this. She won an Oscar a few years ago for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

CatahoulaMom117

You should watch some kind of wonderful. Aweee teenage love.

Stephanie Ella

A classic! The older I get the more I relate to Kathy Bates in that parking lot.. 🤣 iykyk

Austin

At long last!!! I’m getting my bowl ready for this one. Can’t wait!!

CatahoulaMom117

My daughter and I would yell, Towanda,!!!

Austin

Robin Beatch

I grew up watching this with my mom and we would bawl our eyes out together every time! Idgie was and still is my fucking hero. Thanks for the cry today, and I'm so glad you loved it <3

Robin Beatch

The line "I'm too young to be old and I'm too old to be young" touched a nerve this time around 😅

Amanda

Omg guys! One of my favs! Im gonna have to check out the book too! I was sobbing and howling whenever you guys were like “ Oh god no! What now?!” 🤣🤣

Petty Pumpkins

hi sorry just seeing this. did you get it figured out??

Bret Alleman

Selina

I haven't seen this movie since I was in middle school and cried along with you all watching it again.

Magical Adorabella

Loved it, thanks for sharing. I was crying too, gets me every time.❤️🏳️‍🌈

Angela D. Mitchell

I love the movie, but I 100% agree with you and hated the movie's last-minute implication there about Idgie. Not in a million years can she be Idgie. Mrs. Threadgoode is gentle, straight, talked extensively about her special-needs son, etc. The sudden "twist" convo at the end is just silly and I hated it.

Angela D. Mitchell

I love the movie, I just hated some of the last-minute queer erasure: 1. No, Mrs. Threadgoode is not Idgie (and never could have been!). For one thing, Mrs. Threadgoode gave a very long monologue about her marriage and her special-needs child. 2. Evidently the first cut of the movie was more explicit about Ruth and Idgie's status as a definite couple (they are in the book) but the studio had them cut it (and also changed a significant line of Ruth's to Idgie being "the best friend she ever had," etc.). I still love it, and I think it's super-obvious Ruth and Idgie are a couple -- and have AMAZING chemistry -- so it doesn't ruin the experience for me.

MaghenReads&Watches 📖 🎬

just watched this with my Friday night cocktail and I cried right along with you guys. love this movie.

Blake (Neo)

Just finished my first time watch too with yall!! Emotional roller coaster fun!! I loved it! It was hard for me to separate MLP's Ruth character from hers in 'Weeds'. Def should give that show a watch if you havn't seen it yet.

Stephanie Reynolds

It always bothered me how it ended and confused people. Ninny does say when she first meets Evelyn that she married Cleo, Idgie’s brother, but by the end of the film and just the way they’re acting it seems to imply something else. Book is fantastic much more clear on that fact and on her relationship with Ruth.

fkajackiebrown

this movie absolutely wrecks me every time. its so good.

Daniel Turbyfill

The Whistle Stop Cafe is based on the Irondale Cafe in Irondale, Alabama. It’s still in operation. From I-20 you get off at Kilgore Memorial Drive (as in Grady Kilgore). www.irondalecafe.com/history/

Alexandre 🇫🇷🐉

Loved this movie !! Thank you for reacting 🩷 Please react to Sweet Dreams (1985) next time you got a anchoring for some southern drama !! Jessica Lange as Patsy Cline is one of my favorite performances of hers ✨✨✨

Alexandre 🇫🇷🐉

Btw, the book and the movie made me think a lot of The Hours (2002).. both follow women through different timelines, their paths crossing, their stories mirroring each other. Please react or comment !! Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Meryl Streep, Toni Colette, what else could we gays be asking for? 😍

Vanessa Flores

Maybe you guys can check out Untamed Heart with Cristian Slater and Marissa Tomei

Chrissy

I loved watching this with you both. A movie I so highly recommend and even if you’ve seen it, a commentary would be amazing, it’s called A League of Their Own. It’s about an all woman’s baseball team put together during the 1940’s when men went to war. It’s funny, sweet, emotional, such a good movie Also in the book Fried Green Tomatoes, it’s much clearer that Idgie and Ruth are a couple raising Buddy together. That they’re life partners with their son.

Petty Pumpkins

we love A League of Their Own! 💖💖 would love to watch it on the channel sometime 🥰

Chrissy

That would be a great watch ❤️

Stephanie Ella

Mary Stuart Masterson did her own stunts in that bee scene and asked that it be her final scene filmed just in case she died. 😳 Her stunt double quit after refusing to do the scene covered in REAL bees. 🐝

Stephanie Ella

I agree that it doesn’t make sense and I tend to forget this little detail just about every time I watch it.

Stephanie Ella

IMHO she wouldn’t have married a man and had children because she was written like she was 100% Lesbian.
