We're cozying up in the most comfortable place we know (an elementary school attic) (after hours) for a first time read--and watch--of the classic 80s fantasy epic THE NEVERENDING STORY! It's giving god-tier child acting performances, the cutest cuddliest creatures and a gigantic dose of nostalgia and childlike wonder in a way very rarely captured on screen. The only problem was that it ended--when we were promised more forever 😭😭 oh well, that's what rewatches (and sequels) are for 🤭📖🐉💫

The TRAUMA Of Artax Is Upon Us🐴

Emily Carmen

Strap in girl cuz this is a doozie of fun and tears.!

Lavender Violet

Unlike Wes, I was in the right age group for this so when I started the reaction I was wondering why I never watched it. I quickly realized, that as much as I love horror as an adult, I was a scaredy cat as a kid and even though this movie is fantasy, it would have scared the absolute crap out of me. I'm thinking my mom must have steered me clear of it, so she didn't have to deal with my nightmares. 😂 As an adult, I found it adorable.

My parents had this movie on a beta max tape when I was a small child. I watched it so obsessively they had to take it away from me lol

Joshua Scott

Omg! You're in for a treat. ❤️

Dani0613

and you should ABSOLUTELY watch Labyrinth!!!!! another beloved 80's movie.... and campy David Bowie in leotard pants.

Joshua Scott

"The Petty Pumpkins were with Bastian when he hid from the bullies in the book store...." I love the fourth wall break. This is a classic and I love that y'all are going on this journey.

Joshua Scott

They loved to traumatize kids in the 80's.

Robin Jennings

I cried so hard when I was a kid and watched this Not the swamp of sadness!!

Whitney Miller

For anyone who hasn't read the book, the name Bastian shouted out the window was his mom's name -- MOON CHILD!

Drew Shepley

I cannot even properly explain to you the crush I had on Atreyu as a kid. I was utterly obsessed with him to the point that a girl in my 8th grade class who looked like him made me feel things that would later lead to me realizing I'm bisexual <3 I fucking love this movie

Kaylan

The fact that Artax was only onscreen for 15 min and had a serious lasting impact on my heart for the last 40 years 😩

Chrissy

My childhood in a movie ❤️ Artax sinking me as a kid was so traumatic 😫

LuckyLeveret

YES! please do Labrinth!! possible vibe spoilers for the sequels: I wouldn't bother with the sequels ... not only do the recast all the children ... they ret-con the rules they just established for Fantasia ... I went to see it in theaters and I'm still salty about it.

Petty Pumpkins

thank you!! that's such a bummer but totally understand still holding the grudge lolol

Sentient Inuit

be kind to your local genx'er ok. we were traumatized over and over

Daniel Turbyfill

That's an Orange Julius that the dad is drinking.

So the film only covers about half of the novel, and while the second movie does adapt the second half somewhat it strays away from the philosophical background. It is a very German book which in someways does bleed through to the film to a lesser extent, full of existential dread and grief.
