The Movie Buff

Technically rhaegar getting annulled to lyanna stark would make his children he had with Elia Martell bastards so that didn’t make sense at all it’s heavily hinted in the books they did indeed sleep with one another but it was mostly out of duty because rhaegar was obsessed with prophecy and it said that with his fathers line the prince who was promised will bring the dawn and his song is the song of ice and fire. However, according to his ancestor maester Aemon nobody ever looked for a princess whcih means that it was dany the whole time but the showrunners didn’t want it to be Daenerys because they felt it was obvious Jon’s real name isn’t Aegon in the books it’s definitely Aemon even though the books aren’t finished George has said the key to the story was Dany and Jon meeting they share many similarities in terms of their complex leadership and then being loners in a world were people hate then because of who they are dany being the daughter of the mad king and Jon a bastard of ned stark. However it’s hinted Jon is actually a blackfyre which is a targeryn bastard and not the true heir because before Aerys (the mad king) was killed he was so upset with Rhaegar leaving with lyanna that he disowned him and named viserys his heir however because viserys is dead dany is technically the heir but no one wants a woman to be the heir to the iron throne especially if you watch house of the dragon after finishing season 8

Crystal

Yea Jon was knocking boots with his auntie. But yea everything is rushed, they can now teleport from the wall to the south??? S7 is not that bad, but I can’t wait for you to watch s8 to see if you’ll be upset like the rest of us.

creeper doodle

When Rhaegar died, Aerys named Viserys his heir. Viserys' heir was Daenerys. Jon isnt, nor ever was, the heir to the throne, even if you ignore the fact that the throne was taken by the Baratheons and no longer recognizes any Targs as heirs. This is just more bullshit the show runners devised to try and justify what they end up doing with their fanfiction.

creeper doodle

Also, white walkers cant swim according to Jon this episode. Literally last episode they swam to the bottom of the lake to chain up Viserion to hoist his big ass out of the water. You know, continuity and all.

Mia

Dont forget that this show hammers it in your head that death is the only way out of a marriage. Annulments were not a thing, but also Rhaegar had children with his wife Elia Martell with one already named Aegon so annulment wouldve never been granted and it made no sense to give another bastard the same name as his other child. Just another plot hole to avoid giving Dany, a woman, a right to power. Jon is a bastard no matter what. Its funny because one of the themes of Grrms books is that misogyny brings terrible consequences. I just hope yall plan to hop into House of the Dragon immediately after this 😭

Mia

HEAVY on the word fanfiction!

Stephanie Ella

Daenerys is Jon Snow’s Aunt since his father Rhaegar T. was her MUCH older brother. Dany and Rhaegar’s father was Aerys "The Mad King". She said that she’d named her dragons after her brothers, and one of her dragons was named Rhaegal. 🐉 *This isn’t a spoiler, she said it in the show.

Stephanie Ella

I cackle every time I rewatch that Baelish gag.. 🤣

Mia

I don’t think annulment could be granted if the first marriage resulted with children, so it’s just bad writing. Those were his true born children, Jon could never be because of this.

The Movie Buff

Exactly that’s how you know the show runners are slow

creeper doodle

👏 They love to strip all of the women in asoiaf of their power and give it to men

ccadalin

In regards to their speculation about what they think made the final season unlikeable, for me at least without spoiling it came down to the cramming everything into 6 “extended” episodes. Honestly I feel bad in retrospect for everybody involved, the actors, everyone who worked behind the scenes were let down by D&D. GRRM deserves blame too for not finishing the books as well.

ccadalin

At least now that they’re done with S7 hopefully that means a S3 edited binge video is soon on deck 🙏

Mads

I’m just gonna say that don’t let all the hate for season 8 cloud your reaction. While it was rushed yes (6 eps compared to 10), everything is still grand, amazing acting, costumes, sets, music, etc. and there is still lots of drama. Even if i didn’t agree with some of the writing choices, it was still entertaining and that’s what TV is supposed to do 🤷🏻‍♀️ like it was the opposite of boring

Libs

I highly highly request that in preparation for season 8, you pleeeease watch clips of the cast’s press tour for it (before it aired). Tho if you do, I would stop at 1 min bc there are a couple of light spoilers after. https://youtu.be/EA7UQOYskas?si=ongWpLuDm_7J43En

The Movie Buff

D&D were in a huge rush to finish the show because they were offered to do Star Wars when they should’ve just hand it over to people who actually care about the story and the characters instead of trying to give shock value and one dimensional stuff to characters we grew to love. It’s sad some of these actors fought for the characters they played and the show runners just brushed it off because they believed they knew the characters better than they did. The actor who played sir barristan whose character is still alive was upset that they were gonna kill him off when he got the script and he gave them a letter telling them why it was a bad idea to do that and they said “well when he told us that it just made us want to kill him more hahaha.” That’s just low down and terrible and the actress that played the septa was waterboarded for hours when she read the script she was supposed to have the wine ported out the glass not the whole goblet which required take after take and she had developed ptsd. Apparently Cersei is one of their favorite characters next to Tyrion Sansa and Arya and Jon which explains everything because in actuality Cersei isn’t supposed to be this levelheaded she’s supposed to be paranoid and making irrational decisions that cost her and it didn’t make sense after blowing up the Sept that the people would fear her they would be outraged and want to go after her themselves they showed how far they would go when Joffrey had kl and majority of Westeros starving when he started the war of five kings

Violet

Yay!!! I'm soooo excited! I understand why season 8 is less popular and goodness knows I have my issues with it, but I love it and I can't wait for you both to watch it!

Whitney Miller

I will never understand how people felt blindsided by s8. The hints were there all along. (for those opposed to this comment, i promise I'll expand after they've watched the finale.) Please don't leave spoilers or hate comments here because it wouldn't be fair to our Pumpkins. I'm allowed my opinion and like I said, I'll explain my thoughts later.

Violet

Imagine how frustrating it was for us when season 7 ended it was a year and 8 months until they actually started airing season 8 and then it was only six episodes!!

candle

I go through this everytime I read comments under GOT videos lol. I truly don’t know where this disconnect came from where people felt blindsided by the events of S8. I can’t explain it any other way than a lack of media literacy or a misjudge of characters

candle

Not everyone is upset lol.

AB_19

This was everything I needed!

AB_19

Also, regarding hating this season, most of us didn’t. I thought this season was really good! I loved a lot of the beats, even if a bit rushed. Now season 8. 👀 That’s where I get off the train. Haha

John

Are you guys doing Hannibal season 2 this month? Its why I subscribed. You said later in the month I've been patiently waiting lol

John

What's the point then?

Libs

Because the first minute shows reactions from Emilia, Nathalie, Jacob, Kit (sorry don’t know these next actors’ names) Varys, Brandon, Sir Daavos, and Gendry?? That’s 5 leads and 3 prominent minor characters…a part of what makes it funny is that they all respond shortly so as to not piss off PR too much but also bc it’s too hard to be positive about it.

Crystal

The general consensus of those who watched season 8 were disappointed. If you aren’t us then keep it pushing June lol you can sing its praises in your own comment lol

John

Shit, sorry. I assumed they'd finished. I deleted my comment. I'll re write it when they are done

John

Also, for anyone saying it's too dark. Please, for the love of god watch in a dark room. It helps wonders

John

Okay. Fair point 🤣 just asking, I'm impatient alright haha

sophie ♡

I was so happy when you mentioned House of the Dragon at the start of the vid, I feel like you guys will really love that!! I've loved watching all of your GoT reactions over here <3

candle

I genuinely want to know if we’re reading different books. You cannot honestly think, having read the books and knowing what GRRM’s intent and message is, that he ever planned for a different ending for Dany than what the show did. I can point you to interviews where he half confirms it. Also, show does not equal books. If the show never held Viserys being the heir as canon, then it is not show canon. Y’all would have a lot less reason to whine if you could just separate show from books. It’s not a fan fiction, it’s an adaptation of something unfinished. It’s THEIR story at that point, not GRRM’s. He sold it.

creeper doodle

Lmao whining about us whining and not separating show from canon and yet also declaring very boldly (and incorrectly) that GRRMs ending for Dany IS the same as the show. So which is it? Reading comprehension is a lost art. Do YOU know George's intent and message? Because if you think for one second in your delusional little mind that it is what the show runners cooked up, youre a lost cause and dont deserve the dignity of a response. Imagine pretending to read asoiaf. How embarrassing.

candle

LMFAOOOO you’re just as delusional as your fave!! Rhaegar was never officially disowned - that stupid ass comment alone lets me know you get your lore from TikTok. SPOILERS I’m not confusing the show with the books — I’m connecting the dots George himself laid out. GRRM is a student of history — he’s obsessed with cycles of power, the dangers of absolutism, and the tragedy of people who believe they’re chosen. That’s literally Daenerys’s arc. She thinks she’s destiny incarnate — and George uses her to show exactly why that belief destroys people. He has said the major character beats — including Daenerys’s end — will be similar. “The same destination, different roads.” - what he said. He literally compares her to historical conquerors and tyrants in interviews. Again, do you need a link/receipts to help you out of your delusions? Since you clearly didn’t absorb any of the material of the books (if you even read them) nor do you seem to be able to pick up on historical and politics context clues. You’re not defending GRRM’s vision — you’re literally just another fan mad that your fave girl boss with dragons didn’t end up on the throne.

candle

There is no confirmation in the books that Aerys disowned Rhaegar or named Viserys his heir. That’s pure fabrication. His advisors pushed for it but there is no mention of an official act. Viserys became the new heir after Rhaegar fell on the Trident.

The Movie Buff

Yes it is in the world boom aerys sent rhaella his sister/wife and his heir Viserys to dragonstone now I had misread that he disowned rhaegar but after rhaegars death he named viserys as his heir and this is before he found out Tywin murdered Elia and her children

creeper doodle

Nice chat gpt response, but I'll pretend you actually wrote that. *spoilers* Ah, the classic "you just don't get GRRM" deflection, delivered with all the smugness of someone who clearly hasn’t finished the books without Google open in the next tab. Let’s be clear. If your “gotcha” line is quoting “same destination, different roads,” congratulations, you’ve regurgitated the most surface level, context stripped quote in the entire fandom. That wasn’t confirmation of Dany going mad. That was George doing what he always does. Being diplomatic while the showrunners were dragging his life’s work through a bonfire for ratings. And funny how D&D, those same showrunners you’re citing like gospel, proudly admitted that Daenerys’s “mad queen” twist was their idea. They called it a surprise, something they planted, not something George handed to them. Meanwhile, for things fans hated (like Shireen), suddenly that was “oh, George told us to do it.” Curious, isn’t it? All the ugly bits were George’s fault, and all the shock twists were theirs. Seems legit. Except Danys end, oddly enough. So no, you don’t have receipts. You have edited headlines and out of context soundbites and the word of reddit bros youre relying on. What you don’t have is any grasp of how grrm actually writes character arcs especially Daenerys Targaryen’s. Dany’s story is about tension. Mercy versus vengeance. Justice versus power. She doesn’t fall to madness, she fights it. Every choice she makes is questioned, wrestled with, weighed against what she believes is right. No other character reflects as deeply on the morality of their actions as she does. If you think she’s some ticking time bomb destined to lose it, you’re not reading the books, you’re watching a fanfiction adaptation made by men who admitted they were “ready to move on", who turned Jon Snow into a reluctant king type of hero and Sansa into an ice queen. Dany isnt the only one they fucked up, but I suppose characterizations dont matter to you, because flashing lights and big booms make you happy. Also, let’s not pretend this isn’t personal. You’re not analyzing Daenerys, you’re threatened by her. You see a woman who rises from nothing, breaks systems, commands armies, and breathes fire when diplomacy fails, and your first instinct is “tyrant.” Meanwhile, the men who butcher, betray, and burn their way to the top? “Tragic.” “Complex.” “Misunderstood.” GRRM has said over and over that the books will differ significantly. Not just in structure, but in meaning. That characters will live who died. That arcs will play out his way. If you think he’s going to spend thousands of pages developing a character whose entire arc is defined by breaking chains and questioning inherited madness, just to flatten her into “lol just like her dad" then you really, truly didn’t understand a word of it, if you even read it, which i dont think you did. Daenerys isn’t going mad. She’s not becoming her father. And she’s damn sure not the character the show turned her into, since season ONE. Show Dany and book Dany are totally different characters. Daenerys in the books is one of the most complex, introspective characters in the entire series. She questions herself. She wrestles with power. She makes hard decisions and reflects on their consequences. She’s not perfect, but she’s not irrational, and she’s certainly not some inherited caricature doomed to repeat someone else’s legacy. If your takeaway is that she’s “going mad” or is just her father all over again, I genuinely don’t know what pages you’re flipping through, but it’s not the ones George actually wrote. He built her arc around moral tension, not mental collapse. She is fire and blood, yes, but also mercy and choice. That’s the point GRRM’s “broad strokes” comment doesn’t mean the character arcs are identical, it means the events may align, not the meaning or execution. You know, the difference between a tragedy and a travesty. Saying Daenerys might die (i think she is going to die saving the world from the others, since THAT is her true story) isn’t the same as saying she’ll get there via the narrative collapse the show gave us. GRRM has explicitly said the books will differ in tone, character development, and internal logic. Also, since we’re separating book readers from people who just watched hbo sparknotes with dragons, the throne is not the point. Dany’s story is not about sitting on a chair made of swords. It’s about survival, destiny, and the fight against the others, you know, the real threat that’s been quietly building since the prologue of the first book. The show warped the narrative into a political drama with a side of ice zombies. But in the books? The Long Night is coming, it is the most important thing, and Daenerys is the fire meant to meet it. Her story isn’t about conquering Westeros. It’s about saving it. She was literally born to fight the others. And if you missed that, you weren’t reading, you were watching. And barely even that. You are right about one thing, though. We arent reading the same books. Because one of us is actually reading them.

candle

Aerys was spiraling. He likely didn’t know Aegon had been born yet — or if he did, he didn’t trust Rhaegar’s line anymore and chose not to acknowledge the baby. And the “king’s new heir” line about Viserys is from an unreliable in-universe maester, not a royal decree. This is GRRM’s whole point: the collapse of the Targaryens was chaotic, emotional, and lawless. There was no clean line of succession — only survival. That’s why it’s all left ambiguous. But by all the laws of Westerosi succession, Rhaegar as the first born male was the legitimate heir until his death. And by all the laws, his last living male child (Jon/Aegon) is the next in line. Not his younger sister.

The Movie Buff

He was still the king though so his word is law even if he was spiraling why do you think in fire and blood they highlighted how the female women in house Targaryen were done dirty due to precedence and low and behold Daenerys birthed dragons into the world azor ahai is said to destroy the long night and would be reborn amidst smoke and salt just because Jon is the child of rhaegar and Lyanna doesn’t mean he’s the chosen one

Petty Pumpkins

Hi everyone pls be cordial!! No need to argue over this silly little show lol 💔

The Movie Buff

Clock it because I think she’ll most definitely live especially since George’s outline said she and 4 others will make it to the end of the story these dumb Dany haters love wanting to hate on her character and her want Jon to be the savior and hero yet in the books he’s pretty dark and a bit irrational at times too since he’s a child that went through a lot

candle

Girl I don’t even know where to begin LMFAO. I mean this with every fibre of my being: you’re literally in every sense of the word a deluded person so I doubt anything I say will even click in your fantasy soaked brain but anyway: Let’s get this straight before anything else: I’m not a “Dany hater”. I actually like her character. It’s cathartic watching a woman wrestle with rage, power, fire, and a legacy. That complexity is what makes her compelling. So no I’m not “scared of a powerful woman,” LOL. Typical tired ass excuse people throw out when someone actually recognises Dany’s arc. I give powerful women the freedom to be morally grey - as they can be in real life. Now what I don’t like — what you are doing — is watering her down into some romantic prophecy fairy tale chosen one. That’s not what GRRM is writing. That’s not who she is. She’s not a savior written to make you feel good about women in fantasy. You’re making her completely bland - standard. She’s a tragic figure, a revolutionary who becomes exactly what she swore to destroy. The tragedy is not that she fails. It’s that she almost succeeded — and that power, mixed with trauma, ambition, and fire, consumed her slowly. Since Qarth. Since Astapor.“I will take what is mine with fire and blood.” It’s Shakespearean. It’s Caesar. It’s ACCURATE to OUR real life history - which like I said, is literally what gets GRRM hard. You completely glossed over how he’s a history student. Have you even read his other works? What do you think the core themes were there? Not political? LMFAOOO are you just bashing the books against your head? Cause you’re absolutely NOT reading them. At all. The books are political first. The fantasy bleeds through — winter comes, dread creeps in — but it’s about dynastic struggle at its core, power, and the cost of war FIRST. That’s the point. To all his work. “She was born to fight the Others.” Sure, her birth fulfilled part of Azor Ahai but GRRM has literally explicitly made it ambiguous. That’s why we have Jon, Stannis, Dany, imo even Beric as contenders. Once AGAIN, GRRM himself said he hates the idea of clear-cut prophecy fulfillment. He’s a historian. He sees prophecy as political mythmaking. So the idea that Dany was “born” to fight the Others is YOUR interpretation, NOT canon. You’re choosing to read a lame romantic myth arc into a text written by a man who literally said, “Prophecy is a sword without a hilt. It is meant to deceive.” This isn’t Harry Potter. If you’re actually reading Dany’s arc as purely about salvation and not reckoning with the (very real) nature of righteous power, you’re just willingly ignoring the text. Or you lack a historical and political understanding. Either way it’s not landing with you AT ALL. And so many others. Media literacy is dead af. Pick up some classics and work on that for the love of literature.

creeper doodle

Damn, more chat gpt responses? Im giving you the courtesy of replying in my own words, you cant even do the same. Everyone can tell when you use chat gpt, you know. The fact you cant even come up with your own arguments and rely on AI to do it for you automatically makes your 'for the love of literature' shallow as fuck. Ill read your AI slop and write a response in my own words in a bit.

candle

Yeah if I couldn’t engage with a single point I’m making like you are I’d derail with this lame ass “CHATGPT” bit too. I’m literally talking to an insane person.

Sabrina

Hey y’all, I’m a mod for the Pumpkins 🎃 Please take this to DMs or elsewhere if you want to continue this conversation.

creeper doodle

I am more than happy to continue this over dm actually. Also, I did say I was going to write a response to you, so I wasnt derailing at all. Ive got half of a reply written up, actually.

candle

Actually spare me if it’s just going to be more of you turning GOT and Dany into some Fourth Wing ACOTAR BS. I promise you “fans” like you make this shit so unbearable. If I were George I actually wouldn’t continue either seeing as to how his nuanced character building and context clues are this lost on the GP.

creeper doodle

Lmaoooo okay, I understand. I wouldnt want to keep embarrassing myself either.

creeper doodle

I liked this season a lot when it aired! I had some complaints about rushing and choices and dialogue, but generally I liked it. It wasnt until season 8 that I really started picking out the flaws in seasons 5-8. I dont think any season 7 hate started in earnest until season 8.

candle

What’s embarrassing is completely butchering the ambiguity of a complex character and being just another braindead, romanticising fangirl incapable of grasping historical and political context. Have you read Bridgerton? I have a feeling that’s more your level. Loooots of one dimensional bland women who do no wrong for you. No cool dragons that burn shit though

creeper doodle

If you want to continue this discussion, then dm me. If not, then shut up already. Sorry I triggered you so badly tho

candle

You didn’t trigger me. I wrote a normal argument in good faith to your original comment and you responded passive aggressively and immediately projected your delusions onto me. You and your warped view of your fave feel triggered. There’s no point in further laying out how and why everything you say is deluded bullshit. You’ve already shown you’re incapable of comprehending what is being said to you. If you want me to shut up then simply stop replying here.

creeper doodle

I would actually love to have a conversation via dm, because rereading this argument, I do think we both lost the plot along the way, and I think we're kinda arguing the same thing in a way. Not everything, but some of the things.

Gloria Hernon

Watching Littlefinger, I mean Middlefinger go out was one of the very best things about season 7. Arya, Sansa & Bran were the dream team lol

The Movie Buff

However I do feel bad for George because he kinda shot himself in the foot because he wanted do a trilogy at first but he added so many characters that it sort of didn’t go as planned

Stephanie Ella

I watch a lot of television and this is still top tier programming imho. I rewatch GoT every year. 😁🎉

Stephanie Ella

I’ve learned to accept the ending 🤷🏻‍♀️

Stephanie Ella

I’ve always enjoyed it..it could’ve had a couple more episodes though.

Stephanie Ella

Damn! I think I binged S1-7 just before the start of S8 as I kept hearing about GoT and was feeling FOMO about it even though I didn’t even think it was my type of show, but I ended up loving it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Stephanie Ella

I’ve learned to accept the ending and I’m fine with it now.

Amanda Caroline

Yes Chey, I honestly dont understand the people who don't like this season its one of my favorites too! I hope you guys wont wait too long before reacting to House of the Dragon because there are references to game of thrones in it and you'll forget certain things if you wait too long! You guys will LOVE HOD too!! ☺️❤️🐉 Also, for clarification: yes, Jon and Dany are related - she is technically his aunt. Rhaegar was Dany's older brother lol and just for further clarification, no, the actor that played Rhaegar in the finale is not the same guy who played Viserys. Lastly, the Targaryen's used a lot of the same names, Jon was named after Aegon I (also known as Aegon the Conqueror who was the first king of a united Westeros). The more you know 🌈😉❤️

Robin Beatch

As a first time watcher - all I can think of with this end is... WHAT?? What is going to happen? But I guess that sounds about right. I'm looking forward to Season 8 and what this ending is that so many people detested....🧐

The Movie Buff

That’s why I can’t stand D&D they sexualize the women yet they end up just treating them like stereotypes and it shows after the first four seasons that writing and the passion for the show and characters went downhill

Eva Casey

Ok for my fellow Petty Pumpkins in the comment section, I have a proposal - especially as we get into the 8th season. We all know that the show is divisive and people (myself included) have strong feelings about it. There are a LOT of places on the internet to argue with people who don't share your views on the story and how it was handled. But can't we just respect that we all have different povs here and not try to start stuff? Honestly the only thing that could change someone's mind at this point is reading someone else's comment and having a realization of your own, not someone trying to convince you you're wrong. Just a thought that could make this space more enjoyable for everyone!

Eva Casey

It was such a joy revisiting this season with you!!! I agree this season was giving MAX girlbossery! The Baelish scene was everything to me, personally, I won't lie. And especially after 6 seasons of the women on the show never winning, it felt good. I also think it's interesting when you look at what was happening in our society while this show was airing like SO much changed from 2011-2019 I mean it was the whole decade basically. And season 7 aired in 2017 which was like near peak of the "girlboss" archetype (imo obv) so I just like thinking about the connection there, despite the fact that there were no women in the writer's room after season 3 (and even then only 4 episodes were written by women total). Ok this turned into a tangent, but there's just SO MUCH to dig into with this series from so many angles!! Again thank you for giving us these reactions!!!

Eve Griffin

Sophie T. has a tattoo that says “the pack survives” from that line in this episode. Yes, You can scream cry now 😭 🐺 ♥️

Vladimir Woodchester

Hey guys! NOT A SPOILER but I just wanted to say there’s an ep or two in season 8 that are hardly lit and you’ll def need to increase your brightness and turn your mood lighting off to see properly! I don’t want lighting to ruin your experience and reaction! I want to say it’s ep 2 or 3!

Mimi Lee

Love u guys, love the reaction 😍🥰 I won't say anything but I can't wait to see ur faces with the next couple episodes!! I was skeptical but shook to my core!!!

Valeria Ras

🤣🤣🤣"You just know he has a butt plug in."🤣🤣🤣 i believe i laugh cried my fake lashes off again

snallahej

I forgot how amazing that video is. Ah, simpler times.

Nicole

“I wasn’t necessarily getting romantic feelings from him and Dany” right before they fuck for the first time. 🤣 so great.

fkajackiebrown

the hounds attachment to arya is so wholesome. giving off proud dad vibes 🥹

fkajackiebrown

littlefingers end was deadass my favorite scene in the whole series. arya is a beast. just one slice and walked away. swift work. fucking love to see it. play that shit at my funeral!
