Austin

Chrissy

A suggestion (not Whoopi) but two comfort movies of mine from the 80’s and early 90’s. Three men and a baby and the sequel Three men and a little lady

Libs

“La Vie Boheme was giving Sister Act 2” 😂😂😂 literally put my head down and giggled for at least a whole minute 💀

Whitney Miller

Just such a worthy sequel. CORRINA, CORRINA with Whoopi soon, please <3

Stephanie Ella

24:53 I’m pretty sure I just spotted Lauryn Hill of The Fugees.

Austin

Watching Chey and Wes has been a major comfort for me, it’s like watching movies with two best friends you’ve never met in real life 🤣 We laugh and cry together! 😭😭

Aaron J

Whoopi's daughter was in this. She was the girl who told the yo mama skittle joke

Lauren D

Great suggestions! Also Whoopi adjacent considering the Ted Danson incident 😂

Kristin Weiss

“What the fuck Disney? You bitch!” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I’m dead lol. The end was one of the best parts! I had such a huge smile on my face watching this with you guys. This movie literally was my childhood and I will never get tired of it!!! 🥰🥰🥰 Thank you for bringing us some joy today!

Robin Beatch

Fuck yes!! Another iconic movie. It wouldn't even get made today - it was sooo progressive for it's time! Haven't seen it in ages

Robin Beatch

Soo much awesome 90s nostalgia and another incredible performance by Whoopi ❤️ I swear every time I've watched this I've waited for Jennifer Love Hewitt to sing but it never happens 😅🙈

Rosie G

First time watch?!?!?!?! Omfg you are in for such a treat.

Lavender Violet

That was so fun. I have only ever seen this one once (I never fell in love with it like I did the first movie), and I totally forgot that Jennifer Love Hewitt was in it. Always fun to do a watch along in the Patch. 😃

Repomanda22

IN the same vein as fun kinda campy religious musicals you should check out Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat with Donny Osmond as Joseph.

Pam Nail

I love that they cast Sheryl Lee Ralph -- the original Deena from Dreamgirls -- in the role of Rita's anti-music mother who thinks singing is a dead end. This movie is referenced in the horror comedy movie The Blackening, where one character says to another, "If you want to be somebody, if you want to go somewhere, you better wake up and pay attention."

Steven Jump

I think they were going to do a 3rd one, but doubt it will happen. Bette Midler was going to play Sister Mary Clarence in the first one, but backed out because she didn't like the director.

Carrie Schwent

I have watched this movie SO MANY TIMES!! And no matter how many, I still get chills during the choirs numbers. This is definitely a "comfort food" movie for me. I had to skip the reaction to the first one and watch this first! I promise I'll watch the other one, I've only seen it once and that was a very long time ago. I think I'll have more fun watching it with you. And OMG, I will always love seeing a baby Jennifer Love Hewitt!

Carrie Schwent

Oh I know! I had her album back in the day and loved it. I think they used one of her songs in the second I Know What You Did Last Sumner.

Selina

My cousins and I used to watch this movie nonstop. Alanna Ubach is my queen.

Petty Pumpkins

her talent knows no bounds! looking at her imdb is crazy because she can do ANYTHING (love her sm in the brady bunch movie especially 🤭)

ccochran80

I saw this in the theatre in the 8th grade and I still remember every word to every song. Still hits so hard!

Austin

I never noticed the award announcer at the end was the principal from Carrie!!

fire12wife

She's still singing today.. she has a bunch of new music released on iTunes! I wish that they had featured her, and given her a solo, too! She has a fabulous voice!

I love this movie so much! I was in high school when this movie came out! I was in the choir and the band, and we went to the Connecticut All-State Competition every year! This was literally my life portrayed on the silver screen! I went to a public school, so we didn't have nuns or monks for teachers, but ironically, I have an aunt that is a Catholic nun! My mother's sister joined the convent at the age of 14! The name my grandparents gave her was Ruth, but the church renamed her Sister Monica Mary! She's a teacher there and has taught 3rd grade for nearly 50 years! Although she's not the music teacher, she does sing in the choir! My uncle happens to be the music director of the public school, as well! Music is spread throughout my whole family, but especially in me! Music is the air that I breathe, and my passion for it has only gotten stronger over the years! This is the perfect movie for me, and is definitely one of my favorite movies of all time! It brings me back to some of the best moments of my life! I love it so much! I have to suggest to you, if you haven't seen it already... the movie, Mr. Holland's Opus (1995), starring Richard Dreyfuss, Glenne Headly, Alicia Witt, Jay Thomas, Olympia Dukakis, and William H. Macy. It's about a frustrated music composer who has to take a fall-back position as a music teacher to support his family... though he never lets go of his passion to compose music! This is such a powerful movie and will have you feeling all the emotions! I promise, you will LOVE it!

A few years ago, they did a 30th Anniversary Reunion of Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit for Whoopi on The View! Most of the cast returned and gave an interview, and sang two songs from the movie! Everyone was in tears, especially Whoopi! Definitely check that out on YouTube! The soundtrack for this movie is incredible. I got the CD when it first came out and I played it ALL THE TIME! My husband found a vinyl copy and got it for me, for Christmas last year! Highly recommend it, SO GOOD!!!!

This movie is one of my favorites and it hits different after I was asked to revive a music department for a parochial school back a decade ago. I was the director of their music department and I made their Christmas pagant a rock sensation that the little old Pastor absolutely loved and was dancing in the church pews along to the music I felt like Dolores!!! But the head nun was the principal and a real jerk and a half and I got her butt fired for a serious HIPPA Violation and disability discrimination whomp whomp! The school and church was thankfully was very LGBTQ+ friendly which was why I said ok to the job in the first place My first question in the interview was does it matter if a teacher is married or LGBTQ and I was told that is not at all ever a concern. So I was sold the moment I got that response from the vice principal and the fact that the church had a nice flag for the whole community :-) Normally I would have run the other way screaming if a catholic school asked me to teach but because this school was welcoming and progressive and also really enjoyed my lesson plans incorporating modern music I gave it a chance. It definitely was an experience I will never forget.!

Oh Wes sadly yes I have worked with kids that had this same attitude and it was ROUGH at first BUT with time I managed to get it to work and I incorporated music the kids enjoyed to get their appreciation for other genres of music. As a new teacher it was very scary at first because I looked a lot younger and I was often mistaken by parents as a student. It was hard and I had kids that were twice my size and would tower over me angry when their grade reflected their lack of interest in the music class. Eventually things did work out but yes I can say from experience there truly have and are students that just have had to be their own parent and sometimes just needed someone to care enough to speak as a parent and someone that truly cared about their well being. It was a real challenge at first but over the years I managed to get their respect and the upcoming kids learned that I was a very patient teacher that truly wanted to help every kid succeed I gotta admit the kids that were the most difficult always have held a special place in my heart. I have actually just last year got a call from a student and his mom telling me he got into university and his mom said had it not been for me not giving up on him he may have never found the ability to keep going and to pursue the school of his dreams. I really love to hear from the kids years later and to hear how their lives have changed for the better. As cliché as it sounds it really sometimes does just take someone to truly believe in you and challenge you in a kind way to help bring out the best and to be a support at a time when it feels like the world is anything but.❤️

Ugh. I love everything about this movie. Also, sorrynotsorry--growing up, I had a mad crush on Frankay. Like I just thought he was so cool. haha. And the girl that sang the Love Boat (Maria)...she is SO pretty. Every time I re-watch this I'm like "WOAH. SO PRETTY!" every time I see her. What a masterpiece.
