Omg! love Mommie Dearest, Such an amazing movie. Happy Mother's Day everyone ❤️💐

fkajackiebrown

me and my mom love watching this on mothers day. we both have mommy issues. lol its such a classic!

Pam Nail

A few essential (to me) Joan Crawford movies: - The Women (ensemble movie with all-female cast) - Mildred Pierce (which she won her Oscar for) - Strait-Jacket (amazing campy horror)

Pam Nail

Also, since you mentioned Jessica Lange, I have to mention Frances (1982) -- probably her best performance.

fkajackiebrown

PS: your mowers are my opps. officially.

codenamewitch xx

Happy Mother’s Day pumpkins!! I have to share with the patch that I recently adopted a rescue pup who officially leaves her foster at 10 weeks old and joins me in her forever home today, just in time for Mother’s Day!! The brave girl is traveling all the way from Lone Star Rescue in Pearland, Texas to me in North New Jersey! I have decided to name her Daisy 🌼 Partially in reference both to a Taylor Swift lyric and to a character in the show Agents of Shield! Can’t wait to welcome home my Daisy Mae 💛 Friendly reminder to everyone to support shelters and rescues!!

Stephanie Ella

I love this movie and think that Faye did a terrific job portraying the mentally unstable abusive alcoholic Joan Crawford. She allegedly bought those babies from Georgia Tann’s Tennessee Children’s Home Society, a notorious agency known for illegal child trafficking. She later "adopted" twin girls who deny the abuse allegations. I bought the book and this was when I found out she’d originally named Christina "Joan Crawford Junior".. 🙄

Stephanie Ella

I’ve never seen Mildred Pierce and she won an Oscar for that film.

Rosie G

I came as soon as I heard

Rosie G

PS OMFG please watch what ever happened to baby Jane! It will be for an audience of one (me lol).

Stephanie Ella

As somebody who has never cared for beef (or pork) the steak scenes have always pissed me off! My parents would NEVER. 😒

Melodie Ladner

My friends, you absolutely CAN see Jessica Lange as Joan Crawford, it’s FEUD: BETTE AND JOAN ETA: haaaa never mind

Mia

Idk if yall have seen the show Feud but the first season was on bette davis and joan crawfords feud back then. Its not completely accurate but its so camp. Jessica Lange does play Joan in it too! And susan surandon plays bette davis. It would be so fun to see yall react to it. Its only one season. But still a good watch on your own too with some wine 🙂‍↕️

Rosie G

Speaking of Jessica Lange, Grey Gardens would be another great choice for y’all!!

Rosie G

Mildred Pierce is FANTASTIC

Stephanie Ella

Surely Joan Crawford was mentally ill and if she were around today she would be diagnosed with Bipolar, Borderline Personality Disorder, and/or Schizophrenia. I’m not making excuses for her, she was a very troubled woman who self-medicated with alcohol when what she needed was a lobotomy and/or electroshock therapy. *Unfortunately, Antipsychotics didn’t exist yet.

Stephanie Ella

Frances was incredible.. they lobotomized her because she was mentally ill (either Borderline or Bipolar I think).

Skylar

Aw Chey, we do our best as scorpio's but we will always remain the pettiest of pumpkins if f'd with and Joan deserved the wrath. This movie has been with me since I was little, unfortunately wire hanger has always been an inside joke with my mom and I lmfao. Maybe not the best mother's day movie to watch but i'm happy i got to share y'all's first time reaction. Baby Mama as a pallet cleanser is my advice.

Stephanie Ella

I just googled her and found that today is her 49th death anniversary.

Kenneth

Joan is not a mother. She is a smother.

Joshua Scott

I take comfort in knowing Betty Davis kicked Joan Crawford for real in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane.

Libs

1) pleeeeaaase react to Baby Jane!! Yes it's camp and a fun ride, but imo it's also legit horrifying. 2) Have so much work today but dropped everything to watch w y'all...also a first time watch and I wasn't expecting it to be so sad. And yes, as someone who grew up in a similar family Joan was 100% experiencing manic episodes. Love to Tina 💗.

Ariana Meyer

This is my first time watching and I really can’t get over how much Laura linney looks like Diana scarwid!!! it’s literally uncanny to me

Lavender Violet

I concur with everyone suggesting you react to "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" It would be iconic. I also have a fun fact that I just discovered. The little girl who played young Christina (Mara Hobel) later played on "Roseanne" as Molly's (Daniell Harris) sister Charlotte. I was looking up the cast of this movie on IMDb while I watched the reaction and was super surprised to discover that it was the same actress.

Lavender Violet

Same! It was driving me crazy trying to figure out who she looked like to me. I finally landed on Laura Linney and from that point on it was all I could see. They look soooo alike.

Ariana Meyer

I couldn’t unsee it once I realized, im like they must have some sort of shared bloodline!😭 or they must just be doppelgängers 🫣

CheshireKat528

I was born the same year this film came out. I don’t even know how many times I watched it as a child. My Mom, my Sisters, and I would constantly quote it to each other. It feels weird saying it was one of our comfort watches…but the 80s were a crazy time for cinema. I can still hear my oldest Sister running around the house yelling in a dramatic voice, “SCRUB TINA! SCRUB HARD!” 😆😆😆

CheshireKat528

Thanks so much for reacting to this cult classic of camp. I would love to see your reaction to “The Women” from 1939. Joan stars alongside a stellar and amazing ensemble cast of some of the biggest and best movie star actresses of the 1930s & 40s.

CheshireKat528

I love The Women! The dialogue in that film puts the double “Ts” in PETTY!

Emily Carmen

Thank you so much for adopting!!!

Emily Carmen

Wanted to say Happy Mothers Day to all of us cat, dog, and any critters we have raised and loved as our own and also to any and all aunties and siblings that raised or helped to raise siblings or cousins or friends. We are all moms to those we love and helped raise whether human being or not. I have to also say that yall are my favorite family! I hope you and the kitties had a nice holiday together as I just know you are both the absolute best to your fur babies ❤️🎃❤️ Thank you for always being a place I can turn to when I need an uplifting moment and a place I can turn to and chat with like minded kind hearted people at the patch. I am truly so grateful and I apologize for always saying this. Also thanks so much for this gem of a film to watch tonight I really needed this movie tonight:-)

Emily Carmen

I did some digging into the history of Christina and her siblings and Joan and it is quite a mix of information. Unfortunately some of the situations with parents that came from abusive upbringing can sometimes result in one child being the scapegoat so it is quite possible this is true she was abusive to Christina. However other claims are saying that overall for the time period and observations of others that perhaps Joan was a strict mother and also suffered from OCD and other psychological ailments that were not truly treated in a productive way. Others argue that perhaps Christina was upset Joan left her out of the will and Christina also did a play of her book in about 2017 to 2019. I am unsure myself so I always try to leave an open mind and take time to really do some research but I will keep digging and look for reputable sources and such as sometimes when I am not feeling well and recovering from my treatments I will look into Hollywood history and the stories behind films. I had been meaning to look into this movie and the true facts so I am going to see what I can find besides what I have just mentioned. I always hope for the sake of the kids that maybe it is exaggerated but sadly from what I know it can be very easy to hide from the world the truth of what goes on behind closed doors. So I have my concerns about the family dynamic and the fear that Christina did endure immense abuse as a child. I just for her sake wish perhaps it was not true as just the thought of a child being mistreated or an animal being mistreated brings me to tears and motivates me to be more involved in helping those that I can from harm.

Emily Carmen

Thank you for this information. I was just doing some digging to find sources of information regarding the facts as well. And yes as a millennial I remember my cousins finding this to be a very camp movie. I only got to sit down and absorb it back about twenty years ago. I also want to check out the films you just recommended so thanks so much as well for those titles!! I hope Chey and Wes check those out too!! :-)

Emily Carmen

Chey and Wes your expressions throughout this film are taking me!!! I am feeling so evil to cackle hahahahaha Chey your giggle at 38 minutes into the film has me rolling and makes me feel better that I was laughing a few seconds prior when he got up off the couch all dramatic and threw his drink

Selina

I've been waiting for this one for a long time. I watched this movie way too young in life.

Allie Aalto

You MUST MUST MUST watch Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, because omg. Omg.

Henry Riley

LOVE THIS MOVIE! It’s so bad yet campy in a good way

Offred84

I swear she's such a fucking cunt!!!

Offred84

I would have grabbed those scissors and stopped her in the fucking neck

Offred84

I literally just want to beat her with something heavy and strong

BattyT

“Tina! Bring me the axe!” 💃🏻 I’m glad y’all laughed at that, this movie is best when Dunaway really chews the scenery I grew up watching this and Joan was scary to me but as I got older I appreciated the camp I haven’t read the book but I do know Christina’s siblings denied they were abused. Abusers don’t necessarily harm the people in their lives equally though. Like, my brother and I had completely different childhood experiences despite having the same parents.

Petty Pumpkins

both of our cats were adopted as well ❤️ so excited for your new family!!!

Petty Pumpkins

lol 😂 😂 don't know how that one escaped my memory for so long!

Offred84

I would have killed her in her sleep

Amanda

I’ve never clicked so fast!!!! Mamma is the definition of NIGHTMARES!

Amanda

“ she wants to be Jack Torrance so bad.”-Wes 😂😂💀💀💀

IgoZoom

She is amazing in Mildred Pierce. And if you don't watch "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?", I'll have no choice but to revoke your queer cards!

IgoZoom

I guess you could call me a Joan Defender. There is no proof to substantiate Christina's claims and MANY of Joan's friends spoke out in her defense after the book was published. It's also rather shady the book wasn't published until after her death. I seriously doubt that Joan Crawford was a very good mother, but I don't think she was the monster they've made her out to be.

Ali O

That "Barbara PLEASE!" is seared into my mind from Zane Parker videos

Offred84

I just feel so bad for Christina. It's obvious she never broke away from that toxic abusive relationship

Offred84

I believe she was kinda slutty, but women having sex is not a bad thing. And most people would not know about the abuse at home. It's not something you talked about even if you saw it or experienced it. Know from experience.

itsmiah2you

Her peers didn't live with her, I know it can be difficult to accept that a mom abused her kids. Some people do really mind their business, put their head down and do their work so they don't risk being fired. The two younger siblings have an 8 year age gap with Christina and they inherited the money. I'm sure Joan used a different parenting style with them considering that's what many parents do with the younger siblings where they become more 'lax' on rules.

Offred84

The way I would have killed that bitch in her sleep is insane... or not even in her sleep... maybe just a knife to the back... and then 10 more in the front

Nicky

The only reason I know this is because I’m a grew up watching Dark Shadows. Soap operas did live to tape performances. That’s where it’s produced as a live performance, but recorded to be broadcast later.

Dakota Hill

Joan had some good horror movies like Straitjacket and Sudden Fear.

Whitney Miller

I read Cristina's book. It was worth the read. I believe her fully.

Chad Moore

How on earth did I miss this being posted?! I’m not a Joan Crawford apologist by any means, but the movie is a mess of contradictions with two producers — Faye Dunaway’s husband and Christina Crawford’s husband, respectively — battling with each other over Joan Crawford’s characterization. One thought Joan was too sanitized while the other thought she was being portrayed as too outlandish. Even Christina herself spoke out against the finished film and said certain events depicted in the movie never happened or were greatly exaggerated. For a behind-the-scenes look into the chaotic production, I recommend Rutanya Alda’s 2015 memoir The Mommie Dearest Diary: Carol Ann Tells All. Joan did not attend the Oscar ceremony because she was afraid of losing. She also claimed she was ill that night yet was sitting up in bed with full make up, her hair styled, and reporters at her home. The stunt was a sensation and garnered Joan more attention than if she had accepted the award in person. As for the adoption of her children, Christina’s biological mother was found by “baby broker” Alice Hough. Christina was given to Joan 10 days after her birth. Hough also found the first Christopher, David Gary Deatherage, who was returned to his birth mother after she threatened Hough and Crawford with blackmail and negative publicity. Although she reclaimed her son, Deatherage’s mother eventually sold him to a couple shortly afterward. The second Christopher was also found by Hough and Crawford initially named him Phillip Terry, Jr. After her divorce from Terry, she renamed the child Christopher. Crawford’s twin daughters, Cynthia and Cathy, were adopted from the infamous Tennessee Children’s Home. It is believed that the twins were procured by Hough and not by the notorious child trafficker Georgia Tann who stole 5,000 babies from poor mothers and sold them for adoption. When Joan appeared on The Secret Storm in Christina’s place, soap operas were still being filmed live-to-tape. There was no one off camera holding up cue cards. Instead, there was a teleprompter attached beneath the TV camera lens in which the dialog scrolled for actors to read who forgot their lines. Empire Magazine voted Faye Dunaway’s Joan Crawford one of the greatest villains in film history.

Chad Moore

You get bonus points for mentioning my favorite show!

Valentina

Another good classic is “Imitation of Life” warning you will be in tears by the end 🙌🏾🍿

Melinda

I had a friend who would do dramatic readings from Joan's book My Way of Life, full of homemaking/marriage tips. Hilarious, if you didn't have to live it.

Ashley Williams

Jessica Lange actually plays Joan Crawford in Ryan Murphy's "Feud" about her and Bette Davis.

Rebecca Hopkins

Francis is lowkey a masterpiece. What a performance by JL. Not enough people mention this film.

Rebecca Hopkins

I LOVE that movie! Have had it on VHS, bought a long time ago at a flea market, for years and years now. Straight Jacket is so fabulous and very underrated. .

Stormraven

This movie reminds me of a piece of wisdom my therapist once gave me: "Your mother knows exactly how to push your buttons because she is the one who installed them in the first place." Poor Tina, Joan was button mashing hard😅
