40th anniversary...yep, that sound you heard is my back cracking, lmaoooo! There are SO many layers to this film that, as a child, I didn't catch but have become clearer over these past (weeps) 40 yrs. Power dynamics, queerness, etc. all touched on along with the classic "coming of age/leaving girlhood behind" storyline. Love that you guys finally decided to watch!

My besties finally watching Labyrinth. I'm so sat. I'm so happy

OH Muppets Christmas Carol is my fav holiday movie- highly recommend! Muppets in Space is great too 😁

Stephanie Ella

This was my favorite movie as a child and it started my lifelong obsession with David Bowie. RIP.

Watching this back in the 80s when I was six years old formed me in ways I can’t describe. David Bowie was my first crush and I was obsessed with Sarah’s ring and vest. I can still quote the whole thing and I think it informed my love of spooky fun at a young age. The Dark Crystal, too!

Lavender Violet

Honestly any Muppets movie would be great. ❤️

I grew up on the Muppets. You would be good with any of the movies. If they're streaming anywhere it would be fun to see you react to a few episodes of the original TV show. Eventually after watching at least some of them (movies and/or show) you must watch the 2011 version/'remake' with Jason Segel and Amy Adams. As someone who has so many core memories of The Muppet Show that movie was amazing. I took my niece, who was 8 at the time, and the way I sobbed when Kermit sang "Rainbow Connection"...... she was looking at me like WTF, bitch. 🤪 And I couldn't even explain it to her in a way she would understand. It was like all of my childhood memories came rushing at me like a tidal wave. Needless to say, I ❤️ The Muppets.

marx

could you react to something very bad is going to happen and the boroughs

lunasera

Have you guys seen Velvet Goldmine because I'm gonna need that to happen if not! (Heavy David Bowie vibes and gay Ewan McGregor)

I love this so much. I've seen this before, years ago. I really enjoyed watching this with y'all. My favorite was the little fox riding the dog. So cute.

Jennifer

Let me tell you guys that Jareth was the sexual awakening for many young Gen X girls! Hands down, I would have stayed and been Jareth's Goblin Queen.

Dark fantasy Eighties movies were the best! I saw Labyrinth in theaters after its initial release. $1 movie theaters had started to become a thing, and that's where films that didn't do well at the box office were relegated to. Throwing my memory back 40 years and I remember that the theater was full. A humorous anecdote: a little boy was seated behind me and my friend and during the Bog of Eternal Stench sequence the kid exclaimed very loudly, "EWW, DADDY!" There's so much to mention that I'm sure the other Pumpkins have pointed out. The owl in the opening credits was the very first fully realized CGI animal. Almost every object seen in Sarah's room makes an appearance in some shape or form in the Labyrinth. Sarah's late mother was an actress and in one of the photographs taped to her mirror, you can see David Bowie with her mom. Toby, the baby, was played by Tobias Froud and was the son of conceptual artist Brian Froud who worked on the movie. Tobias grew up to be a special effects designer, puppeteer, filmmaker, and performer. There's been talks about a live-action Labyrinth sequel for years. Sadly, nothing has ever materialized. A Manga sequel called Return to the Labyrinth revolves around the adventures of Toby as a teenager when he is tricked into returning to the Labyrinth by Jareth. A final note: David Bowie's prominent bulge inadvertently caused many a sexual awakening!

I’m not even joking when this is in one of my top 5 movies of all time like the way to me this is a comfy watch like it’s soothes not just my body but my soul like from the songs to the performance and yes like it’s not an Oscar type drama but god to me this movie is perfection of movies like avengers endgame where hahahahah

Jayden Joshua

The way I know every song and lyric Stephanie like the music alone is chefs kiss

Also have to say my favourite song use to be dance magic as a kid and now as teen to adulthood it’s been as the world falls down which is the song playing when it’s the masquerade ball scene

Kim Simpson

Still in love with this 40 years later 🩷💜

Whitney Miller

My little brother Jereth was named after the Goblin King ❤️

Laura Webb

This is one of my favorite childhood and I'm thrilled you both enjoyed it so much 💕

Selina

Agreed on any and all Muppets. But, Muppet Christmas Carol is peak. The Dark Crystal is also a good (terrifying?) dark fantasy Henson piece worth checking out.

sati

i always planned since i was 8, on playing as the world falls down during my wedding someday<3

Whitney Miller

Sarah has always been one of my favorite final girls. Yes, I consider her a final girl because that shit is horrifying. lol Also, she is giving Nancy in Nightmare on Elm Street turning her back on Freddy with the whole "you have no power over me!" Love it so much. I'm so glad you liked this movie has you did. It is my child hood. So much so that as I've mentioned before, my little brother is named Jereth after the Goblin King. PS: I know we all can't stand Jared Leto but Jennifer Connelly and Ellen Burstyn play fantastic roles in the movie REQUIEM FOR A DREAM.

Stephanie Ella

I would’ve given up everything for that man.. 🤣

Stephanie Ella

I’ve requested it too, because yeah.. very Queer film with heavy Bowie (and Iggy Pop) references.

Stephanie Ella

"The World Falls Down" is so romantic.. it’s always been my fave.

Jayden Joshua

Literally such a romantic song like to me easily could be a wedding song and not cheesy type but the meaningful ones

Tia

Man I don’t remember Jen’s character being such a brat in the beginning lol. She lives in a nice house and her step mom seemed nice and just had to watch her brother for 4 hours. Haha

Chrissy

One of my favorite movies as a kid, still love it. Sir Didymus and his loyal steed Ambrosius are my forever favorites 😂😂

Chrissy

I have a blue tshirt with the worm on it saying “Ello!” 😂😂 My daughter has an adorable plushie of Ludo

Jenny A

YES an amazing, overlooked queer classic.

Jennifer

I was absolutely obsessed with this movie back in the late 90's. Ewan McGregor jumping around naked on stage covered in honey and glitter...

Omggg I used to love this movie!! I even still have the dvd my dad got me like 15-20 yrs ago 😭😂❤️❤️

Kate Gervais

Seriously, I don't know other people who have loved and enjoyed the darker child products more than those who have lived through them! There are so many movies that I watched as a kid that would traumatize kids now. We are a special group. I have several that are typical of the 80's child. if you want to learn how we have worked. I really wish that more people can see the formative movies that we have been through.

My daughter and I have those last lines tattooed on us with the Owl. Mine says “Should you need us, for any reason at all” and hers says “for no reason at all, I need you” 😭💕 Makes me cry every time!
