Roslin became president because of the order of succession. That's the more appropriate phrase for the situation than designated survivor. In the US for example, after the president and VP comes the Speaker of the House, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, the Secretary of State, and then the rest of the President's cabinet in a particular order that I won't bore you with listing. You still have to qualify to be President according to the US Constitution (natural-born citizen, at least 35, resided in the US for at least 14 years). So, when Madeleine Albright was Secretary of State during Clinton's 2nd term, she would have been skipped over because she wasn't a natural-born citizen (born in Prague to Czech parents) even though she lived in the US since the age of 11 and became a citizen at 20. Hope that was at least a bit interesting. 😉

From my understanding the designated survivor is someone who is hand picked. You are right Roslin was literally the only person from parliament to remain alive

They just keep finding new shades of gray for the story lines.
