Glad you enjoyed the film. Yes, there is a book that was made into a film. And in the book we can read Snow's thoughts from the beginning, which are selfish. Yes, he needs security and control given his childhood. But he's already thinking about how best to manipulate people into doing what he wants. In the film they made a character that is more sympathetic. But I don't think there was any sharp turn or break in Snow's character at the end of the film. From the beginning we can see that he has negative traits. He sees people from the districts as second class people. He doesn't like Sejanus, doesn't consider him a friend, hangs out with him because he has a rich father. And all the ideas for improving the Hunger Games are his ideas. Tigris is the one who told him how to deal with Lucy Grey. He only went to the arena to save Sejanus because Gaul told him he could get the prize. I think the most important moment in Snow's final change was when he killed the man in the arena, that's when he felt the power. Yes at some point you can believe he loves Lucy Grey and is grateful to her. But he loves her more as a thing in possesive way, she's his girlfriend, his Lucy Grey. And it's very well portrayed in the book, he was very jealous. In the film he could have made the right choice several times, but he always did the opposite, he always chose what was best for himself. What happened to Lucy Grey is a mystery. Maybe he didn't even shoot her at the end - and it was a snake bite hallucination. I love this film, great acting by the actors and all the songs in the film have meanings. It was Lucy Gray who wrote the song the Hang Tree. And she described a real situation there, because we are shown the execution of a man who supposedly killed three people and he screamed to his beloved to flee. Yes, there's more going on in the book, and the film could have been an hour longer. But I'm afraid it wouldn't have been seen in the cinema))

You're right. Without Tigris telling him to empathise, he would never have gone to Lucy. Also, Is not knowing what happened to a small factor into his madness ? Do the books portray that a bit differently?
