I'm so happy this won the poll. I knew you'd enjoy it. I've never seen such a beautiful war movie (if there can be such a thing,) especially the night scene with the flares. This was a work of art. It won a bunch of Oscars.

Good reaction guys. I am much more familiar with WWII movies because I am of the generation whose fathers were in that war. For example mine was in the Battle of the Bulge and later was captured and spent some time in a German POW camp. My mother's best friend's husband was in the Manhattan Project that developed the atomic bomb. First World War was a different story and not much was known among my relatives but one cousin. All Quiet on the Western Front was my biggest introduction to WWI. Movies can be important for telling history in a way people will learn about it. Korea was ignored by the movies pretty much except for several of the battles to capture various strategic hills. Oh and MASH. Did you know Donald Sutherland (President Snow in the Hunger Games) developed the character of Hawkeye for that movie? War is a horrific event no matter what century or side you are on.

I can't get over that night scene. Everything about it was perfect. I can see why it won so many awards.

Same. I think most movies and tv shows are geared towards WWII. I wonder if that's why there aren't many on WWI. Just not enough knowledge about it passed on from people. Oh wow I had no idea he did. And such an iconic character such as Hawkeye as well.
