Mahad Ali

One of my favorite movies and its such a fine demonstration of why casting is so important. Brad Pitt and Val Kilmer were offered Denzel’s role and turned it down. I dont think either could bring the gravitas that denzel brought to the roll. Al Pacino turned down Gene Hackman’s roll and i also think that would have been a step down.

On a more somber note, Tony Scott would have directed Top Gun - Maverick but unfortunately he took his own life in 2012 by jumping off a major bridge in LA. It was national news when it happened. The public nature of it always struck me as odd. (Note: He was Ridley Scott’s brother in case that wasn’t obvious.)

John Mc Ternan

There's a a short big budget Australian TV miniseries (remake) called On The Beach from 2000 (based on the 1950's book) about what a US submarine crew does after a massive nuclear exchange that takes out the northern hemisphere, I've never seen anyone react to it, but it's one of the most harrowing and gripping things I've ever seen. I've never seen it on a streaming service or a reaction to it anywhere and it's only on YouTube, probably a bit niche. If you search On The Beach 2000 on YouTube, you'll find remastered versions of it. It's all but forgotten but it shouldn't be, it completely rocked me.

The original film in 1959 was very shocking when it came out. I have not seen the new mini series but it would be disturbing as well.
