The opening credits to Ryan Ridley show was a parody of the original The Equalizer. The music, him standing in front of a car with a spotlight behind him is a perfect match to the original 80s series that the Denzel Washington movies are based on. The original also had a montage of before the opening credits. It was an awesome show and had one of the best opening credits of 80s tv shows.

I think the end-credit tv shows are a recurring dig at NBC. NBC canceled them after season 5 and replaced them with the kind of low brow scripted programming that US network tv channels prefer. NBC, ABC and CBS are looking for mass appeal, so often their shows are based on a single gimmick. Like a brilliant doctor who is also a child. Or a detective who can read minds. Etc. Dan Harmon is mocking that with these endings.

I also think that the show was never really the same after Donald Glover left. And they needed something to replace the Troy and Abed clips that often ended each episode.
