Ben's mother was played by (the late) Glenne Headly. She was an early member of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre, alongside great actors like John Malkovich (to whom she was once married), Gary Sinise, and Laurie Metcalf. You might know Ms. Headly from the movies Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Dick Tracy, or the miniseries Lonesome Dove.

From the 1990s, I think of her from And the Band Played On and Sgt. Bilko. More recently, she guest starred on Monk for several episodes and was in a memorable episode of Psych. She was such a versatile actress.
