Saturday Update! (Patreon)

Good morning! I gotta warn you guys right off the bat, this post might be a little sloppy- I only got around 3 hours of sleep last night cuz I got a little drunk last night for Halloween and that makes me not sleep 😂

Halloween went great though, I had an absolute record number of trick-or-treaters! I usually get around 60 and last night I got 97! Crazy! Luckily I had some loose toys and candy left over when I ran out of bags. I think it was a combo of the weather being very warm [ for up here ], it being Friday, and the kids probably being excited to get out and do something [ teachers have been on strike for weeks here so the kids havent been in school rip ]

One of the teenagers asked me if my tattoo was from jujutsu kaisen LMAO [ it isn't but I have to admit it looks exactly like it ] A surprising amount of them were cosplaying anime or game characters too. Them kids is alright.

Anyway, let's get into the actual update:

Last week I think I was very productive! I got a lot of writing done.

I know it looks like I covered the same amount I did last week when I was complaining that I didn't get much done, but it's different.

Last week I started truly working on one of the central mechanics for the game that was planned from the start in a sort of 'general idea' sense. Now that I've actually started chewing on what I bit off, I can say that I am astonished and baffled by my own hubris. I did think to myself more than once 'oh god, what have I done'

I stand before a Goliath of my own making, in a jester suit, pissing myself. I am both the ringmaster and the abused chimp in the sick little circus of my endeavours.

I'm still gonna keep making it though. Obviously. I just think that maybe the writing will take a longer time than anticipated. I am not as close to finished as the coloured chart would lead you to believe.

On the bright side, I think it has the potential to be Really Good™. It's going to take a shitload of work to get it there but I see the vision. Hopefully I can get it there, or close to there.

I'm also getting more solid on Lawrence's character every week. He really is very different from his original game, and I'm happy with that. I like this better and I think once the story really unfolds, it will work better.

And in other work I did get the 'river system' I mentioned last week working. It isn't really that complicated, it was more just getting the scenes to work together properly. I've gotten the code working as intended now.

I can't really show you right now because there's basically nothing to show aside from the death screen, which is just Strade's death screen with the same treatment as the pause screen [ curvy thorns instead of chains, dripping blue instead of green ]. I'll need to go in and jazz up the transitions later but for now the barebones function is enough.

Next week I need to set aside time to code and design the new precision struggle screen [ it's come up in the script ]. It's be a lot like the previous Struggle! button mashing thing, except I need timed hits on a hitbox moving back and forth instead of button mashing. I'm pretty sure Renpy has the capability I need but I need to figure out how to build it.

Oh! And one last thing I remember:

My last shipment of merch is on its way to me and my Vograce contact sent me some pics of the pins- one of them surprised me because I legit full-ass forgot I put a new design in LMAO

I think it looks great though! I'm excited to see them in person!

And hopefully I can open my god damned store again eventually and actually sell stuff again 😂 [ the postal situation is still bad... I've been hearing some stuff about them setting up a contract but I'm still gonna give it a bit. I'm just too tired of opening the store and then some part of the postal system collapsing while I have 50 packages in it ]

Now I'm gonna go take a shower and have another coffee in an attempt to become human LMAO

PS: Oh also please don't worry too much about Willow! She's quite healthy I think, I'm just having the vet do a few more tests next month to make super sure there's nothing serious causing her barfs. I've also bought a new dry food for her that I'll be gradually switching her to [ Hill's Science Diet Sensitive Stomach & Sensitive Skin Pollock Meal that has a picture of a cat on the front that looks like it just said 'mom I frew up' ] Which seems to have great reviews and it's good for both digestion issues and possible chicken allergy since it's mostly fish protein instead [ she will continue to get wet food turkey pate dinner as well, that doesnt seem to cause her issues ]. Hopefully that gets her living 100% comfortable!
