Good morning folks! We've made it to another Saturday!

It's finally warm and sunny here, so everything green has exploded at once. I'm really loving the scenery and fresh air, but alas, that also means my spring allergies are hitting hard. I am currently trying to perform a balancing act between being in an allergy medication unsleep coma and having itchy red buttholes for eyes. Right now it's the buttholes. Tonight it will be the unsleep.

I got a relatively good amount of work done last week despite all that. I've decided to try out a new system with my work schedule to promote short term motivation and make my resting time more guilt free. Basically, it's my normal 8hr work day, but if I get 10 new placeholders done, I can take the rest of the day off. If I don't, I just do my normal work day, no big deal.

So far, I think it's working really well. I've reached the quota a few times and gotten to take a few extra hours off while still feeling pretty accomplished. I think I'll keep going with this new system for now.

I now have exactly 300 placeholder sprites, and Day 1 is almost fully sprited [ just some niche scenarios left I think ] This last week I just started getting into the first night. At this point I think I can say it's pretty likely that YKMET:Lawrence will end up with more sprites than YKMET:Strade, though I would say it's mostly just due to style of the story. As I've mentioned before, a lot of the sprites are very similar, like slight variations on expressions.

I didn't make any progress on my Zelda thing this week but I might work on it tomorrow. Maybe even a steam if I'm feeling up to it, but no promises LMAO

For now, that's all I got! Oh, except for the Willow section of course

It's so ironic that Lawrence has more sprite LOL. It makes sense, considering how different the story is and needing to portray small things in the sad boy... But still 😂. 300 already is crazy! Do you happen to know how many sprites you had total for ykmet Strade and how much you predict you might have for this one? I love how animated he looks already for being an... Unanimated guy LOL. Hii sorry to ask about that stupid fox during Lawrence’s time to shine, but I was wondering how Strade being dead will play out in YKMET Ren now theres multiple endings where he dies? Like… will it take a different path to BTD2, it was pretty “open” there too. YKMET:Strade had around 550 images total if I recall, but that's counting backgrounds and special effects so I think maybe the sprite count for strade might have been somewhere in the 450-500 zone? I genuinely don't know how high the count for Law will get but I'm starting to get kinda nervous cuz I have 2 nights, one full day [ with many different possible paths ], several floating endings, and some other content I won't describe left to sprite for.... Of course, as time goes on I'll be able to reuse more sprites since I'll have more to work with so it's very hard to tell. I'm pretty sure it will end up being more than Strade's game, maybe dramatically

Strade: I wanted him to be sturdier and more genuinely friendly looking. I made his face shape more square, and draw his bottom canines more prominent than the upper ones for a slight underbite- for friendliness, I chose an eye shape that's often more associated with a friendly, laid back vibe. The extra weight is part of that decision as well, although that happened more organically as I drew him over the years and I gained more ability to draw anatomy. Ren: Obviously the top concern was making him actually look his age. Having more skill in anatomy helped a lot so that I could draw 'short, but adult' better. Adding fur to his chest and armpits was part of that decision too, but I also think that was just whimsy and making him more foxlike as well. His new face features are all geared to make him more foxy- almond catlike eyes, a pointy nose [ like a cartoon fox ], and more subtly, a dark rim on his lower lip along with darker colored gums. In his appearance in YKMET:Strade, I also wanted him to look more harmed by his time with strade, so the that was the idea behind the bandages and his choppy messed up haircut. Lawrence: I wanted to go with a longer face and nose since I think that suits him. Also, a major design direction is 'chronically tired/depressed' So his shoulder slope steeply downwards, and he's constantly slouching. This has the added benefit of making him more imposing when he finally stands up straight. I also wanted to change his colors, making him just a bit more 'dead' looking. His skin tone is now more grey, and I've added a fair bit of reddish purple around his eyes for a tired look, and that look of blood vessels through very light skin. He's also been given several scars, which is now part of the plot of the game. Ashe: Ashe needed a more dramatic change, because they will have a very different role in the new game. I didn't think the 'scene kid' look would work at all for what I had in mind. I wanted something otherworldly and ethereal, something still a bit human, but also definitely _not_ . I wanted to tone down the 'angel' vibe by removing the feathered wings, and make the look more strange. I also wanted to convey Ashe's laziness and reluctance to socialize, so I decided to have them appear basically sleeping, only using an eye on their hand to interact with the player most of the time. I think I still kept a certain vibe of 'edgelord', but hopefully in a way that's more appropriate for an unknown being in the River.

Absolutely not 😂 Things have only gotten worse while I've been gone. Just look at what they've done to poor Gooseworx. You simply can't be an indie creator online these days any more without being mobbed constantly. Especially if you're a woman or nonbinary. I think there's a really dark streak of resentment and envy among content consumers that's driving people to tear creators down. Especially when they're the type of creator these people identify with, because that's when envy and resentment is the strongest. I have some sympathy for people because I understand they're being crushed by the weight of grift-capitalism, stuck in jobs they hate and struggling to get by. But they are certainly not regulating those emotions in a healthy way. It's coming out as aggression.

Probably not ^^; sorry! Merch is just so much work and prints are a real pain to ship. It's possible I could get into it someday but honestly I struggle to keep up with merch. I really want to keep my game work as my top priority so I can't let merch creep into that work time too much.

I can't say I'm entirely solid how I'll approach it yet since I'll be doing that more in YKMET:Ren's planning stages, but I think for now I can say that I'll probably just be vague about the details- I think it would suit the situation for Ren to be more reluctant about telling the tale anyway.

That's so exciting though!!!! You really set the standard for how visual novels can be so detail and creative. I can't imagine having to keep up with all of those omg. I wouldn't be nervous! Drawing so many just shows how detailed and intricate you're going to get with this game, and I love how you're really taking your time to show every detail in the smallest things. (God speed to all the line art and coloring lol!) I'll be so curious to see when Ren's game comes, if it'll be the same as this one or more along the route of Strade when it comes to sprites.

On the topic of Lawrence, have you ever heard "The Bog Bodies" by Rabbitology (the non-demo version)? Since it released I swear I cannot hear it without thinking about Law. The instrumentals are immaculate and the vibe you get from it is so... Him? It has strings, whispy voices, it really is a Lawrence infused song, and the lyrics also remind me of how a relationship with Law would feel like. Now in the topic of Rabbitology, I also like "Stranger" for the way I think the vibe is also very fitting for him and his storyline. You should definitely listen to them if you haven't!

Allergies claim another... I take daily cetirizine tablets and it does a good job of taking it from "oh my god i want to die" to "this sucks BUT I can actually do stuff". I've also heard people say that air purifiers helped them? Whatever works, I hope you find a good balance this season ❤️

I always wanted to ask how do you get around drawing angles like that? I always find myself struggling with those types of angles ><;; also, im glad you found a good workflow for the week, I tend to think that is the best feeling to have a routine

It was the only thing that worked on my ex partner without making them feel sleepy. It's kind of hard to find, but we got them from Amazon and iherb maybe. definitely amazon at least

one thing that's kinda silly but helps a lot is to draw a basic rectangle with vertical/horizontal lines in the middle, then just use whatever digital tool you're using to distort it so it's wider on one side to match the angle you want. Drawing over top that and know where 'middle' and the outside edges are gives you a bit of a guide. Sorry if that doesn't really makes sense, it's a little hard to explain ^^;

He will still have a reaction to plant themed names, but this time it won't change anything in the overall gameplay. I think it's a fun detail to keep in, but I don't want players to feel like they have to do it for gameplay reasons
