You've probably gotten this notification from Patreon that come November they're being forced by Apple to use their payment system if new memberships make payments through the Iphone app. I'm curious, how many of you sign up for creators pages and make that payment through the Iphone app and not others like on PC or other phone types? If you do I highly recommend you use other ways as to avoid any extra fees, although those of you here now should be fine as this applies to new memberships.

Note, using the Iphone app is fine, it's just new memberships made through it that's affected.

They're also being forced to change all creators profiles to subscription billing, meaning instead of being charged on the 1st of the month you'll be charged on the date you signed up on each month. This doesn't really change anything, but do be aware when this happens in November the date charged will not be on the 1st anymore.

It's annoying, but shouldn't really affect anything, I just may have to deal with some setbacks personally but hopefully not too much. I really appreciate all the help you guys give me, thank you so much for being here and helping me through all this! As always if anyone has any concerns or questions feel free to ask!

I did it in a pretty complicated way. I signed up through the browser, but I’ve started paying for it via the app, but I’ve been only using PayPal

I use browsers on all my apple devices, so i don’t do their commission game. I’ve been told by other creators that the biggest problem in the latest batch of changes will be the switch to a subscription model where you pay every 30 days after the date of start of support rather than the first of the month, which disintegrates the income into tiny bits and might mean you put out work without the certainty of retribution for it should patrons cancel before time, but apple’s arm twisting isn’t welcome either.

I use PayPal. I don't want to be that guy but be careful with the NSFW stuff, too many creators have had their account locked.

I use the website, and I'm scratching my head over how Patreon has managed to dodge the Apple in-app purchasing fees for so long. It sucks for creators, but that 30% cut to Apple has been there for apps since day one, IIRC.

It is a crazy percentage, and I hear that Apple now has some form of tier for how much of a percentage Apple takes when an app uses Apple's processing system. I'm still trying to understand how Patreon has avoided the fees in the past.
